Robert Michael Dole

Robert Michael (Mike) Dole was born in Atwood, KS on February 19, 1937 and died in Humble, TX on October 29, 2015 at the age of 78.

He graduated from Kansas State University in 1960 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Gulf Oil Co. and subsequently Chevron, as plant manager in St. James, LA and later as engineering consultant in the Houston area. An avid hunter of birds (and the occasional prairie dog) in his youth, Mike would later trade his shotgun for a set of golf clubs to become a lifelong lover of golf. He remained dear friends to his fraternity brothers ("the Delts") throughout his life and enjoyed passing many vacations on the golf course with them and their families. After retirement, he maintained a regular golf game at Atascocita Golf and Country Club and relished the constant company of his children and grandchildren. A quiet man of quick wit and sharp intellect, Mike Dole was driven by an unflappable work ethic and innate sense of fairness. His compassion, humility, and good-natured sensibility survive as examples to us all.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Ollie Carney Dole; sister Leslie O'Neil (Peter) of Birmingham, AL and brother Bill Dole (James Antognini) of Redmond, WA; sons Michael (Adrienne) Dole, MD of Alexandria, LA, Gregory Dole of Baton Rouge, LA, and Christopher Dole (Joy) of Northampton, MA; step-children Amber Gibbs Mena (Victor) of Huffman, TX, Rowdy Gibbs (Val) of Fort Worth, TX, and TeeDee Picou Gibbs of Baker, LA; and 13 grand-children and 1 great grand-son. He was preceded in death by his parents William Lovejoy Dole and Ruby McMichael Dole of Norton, KS and step-son Frank (Foxy) Gibbs of Baker, LA.

A memorial service will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 South Houston Ave in Humble, TX on November 13, 2015 at 2:00pm.
