Sandra Schafer Obituary

Sandra (Sandy) Schafer, Kingwood, originally from Kansas City, MO and later from Omaha, NE, left her earthly home for her heavenly home on March 27, 2015 at the young age of 79. She had various health issues, primarily cancer and heart, for the last several years. Her family and friends said Sandy was like the "energizer Bunny" always bouncing back. But her batteries finally wore out and could not be recharged. She was in hospice 2 days when she passed on. Her husband, Tom, and daughter, Julie were with her a few minutes before her passing. Sons, Scott and Brian, were able to visit her earlier.

Sandy, an only child, was born December 13, 1935 in Kansas City, MO to William and Lucile (McElyea) Partridge. She graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City in 1953, and then attended Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO graduating in 1957 with a degree in elementary education, although she never did teach school. Sandy married Thomas (Tom) Schafer June 8, 1957, then went with Tom in the Army Ordnance Corps until September 1959. In the mid 1970's she started working as a secretary with several tax firms and retired in 1995. From 1959 until October 1968 she lived in Kansas City, moved to Omaha, NE in 1968 and then moved to Kingwood in October, 1986 when Tom was transferred to Houston with Enron.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents. Her immediate family consists of her husband; 2 sons, Scott (Edmonds, WA) and wife Mary Jo, grandsons Brett and William; Brian (NYC) and fiance' Maureen, grandson Andrew (VA), granddaughter Rebecca (Arvada, CO) and great-grandson Justin; daughter Julie Lanley (Phoenix, AZ) and spouse Dave, grandson Ryan and granddaughter Megan; cousins Marilee Friedman and Diane Swift, and husband Larry (Tampa, FL area); Anne Mayes and Mary Hoss (Kansas City, MO area), and numerous other cousins (locations unknown).

Sandy was really a fun loving person. She always had a smile and when she walked in a room she made the room glow. She had much wit and always liked a good clean joke and liked to tell a joke. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved all children. Sandy was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood including singing in the choir, Sunday School and the "Gathering Place", a group that worked with dementia and stroke victims. She loved music, whether listening to it, playing the piano (her mother was a piano teacher), going to concerts or singing. At the 2013 Kingwood Pops Xmas Concert, Sandy conducted the orchestra playing "Sleigh Ride". This was something on her "bucket list"

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to The American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood Memorial Fund. The entire Schafer family deeply thanks all other family and friends for their support with thier prayers, cards, phone calls, and/or E-mails.

Visitation will be at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, on Saturday, April 25 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, phone 281-358-9005. The funeral service will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, 5520 Kingwood Drive, phone 281-360-5555, on Sunday, April 26 at 3:00 pm, with a reception following. In addition to the Kingwood visitation and service, there will be a memorial service later this year at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. We know that Sandy is now at peace and comfort with God at her side.
