Curtis Carson Obituary

Curtis Brainard Carson

Curtis Brainard Carson, born October 19, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of Doris (Foster) Carson and Brainard Frederick Carson, Jr., left this life to be with our heavenly Father on June 7, 2014.

He leaves behind, his beloved wife of over 40 years, Karen (Jones) Carson; two daughters, Leslie (Putman) and her husband Andrew, and Holly (Tasz) and her husband Edward. Curt loved his daughters deeply and was so very proud of them. He also leaves behind his sister, Carol (Kneeland) and her husband Theodore; his nephew, Douglas and wife Crystal; and great-grandnephew, Teddy.

Curt was recently retired from DFI in Akron, a division of Peoples, as Logistics Manager. He was enjoying his time biking and participating in his other hobbies of piano, photography, gardening, traveling and woodworking, a talent which allowed him to produce works of art which he shared with many. He enjoyed being a volunteer at the Cuyahoga National Park as Trail Blazer and belonged to other biking organizations in the area as well. A lifelong gifted musician, during high school he was a distinguished member of several New York All State Orchestras and Choruses, and for years sang with the Akron Symphony Chorus and the Medina County Chorus until he suffered a debilitating hearing loss.

Besides serving with Karen as a loving caregiver to his mother, Curtis was an active supporter of his community serving as an Indian Princess Dad and Long House Chief receiving Volunteer of the Year Award from the Akron Area YMCA a volunteer photographer for the Woodbridge High School football team, a member of the community group which built the JUMP playground and an eight year member of the Median High School Marching Band Dads. Curtis was an inductee of the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow. During high school, he was the recipient of a special National Merit Scholarship and participated in multiple sports including cross country, track and field and soccer, continuing his athletic interests into adulthood as he enjoyed playing recreational football, baseball, racquetball, and sailing. He was a member of the Solvay (NY) DeMolay and the Jamestown (NY) Masons.

Curtis was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran who served his country honorably and suffered from exposure to Agent Orange a contributing factor in his sudden death. Curtis was a Lifebank donor and his wish to continue to help others will help over 50 other people improve their quality of life with his generous donation.

Curtis was a graduate of Syracuse University and the SUNY School of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University. He was a Brother of Acacia Fraternity at Syracuse University and kept his lifelong love and friendship with his brothers and little sisters of Acacia over all these years. He was much loved and will be greatly missedby all that knew him.

A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, June 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to Cuyahoga National Parks in support the Trail Blazers program or the Syracuse Chapter of Acacia Fraternity, Syracuse, N.Y. Ed & Kathy McLaughlin

June 11, 2014

Kathy and I (Ed McLAughlin) are very sorry to hear of Curt's passing. We have a long relationship going back to 1965. In fact Curt was there when Kathy and I met for the first time. Karen, our hearts go out to you. I understand this was sudden and Curt was such a vibrant guy! We have not seen you two in years, but it was the kind of relationship that was so close when we were young that it is like yesterday. Curt was and still is one of my best friends in my life! He will be missed!!
