Arvena Baker at age 101 passed away September 6, 2012 at Bayou Manor in Houston. She was the daughter of Beulah and August Hofheinz. She and her husband James Baker were residents of La Porte, Texas where Arvena taught 3rd grade and James, who preceded her in death, served as superintendent of schools. Arvena was active in the La Porte Readers Club and served as president for three years. And both she and her husband enjoyed painting landscapes and seascapes in oils. They also liked fishing and often could be seen in a boat searching for a school of speckled trout. Arvena is survived by a brother, Willburn Hofheinz, his wife Marcie and their son, David. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home. Condolences may be shared at www.grandviewfunerals.com
