Beverly Ann "Dodie" Jackson, born April 13, 1957 in Pasadena, TX, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on January 16, 2013. Dodie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Dodie graduated from South Houston High School in 1976 and went on to be a teacher's aid at St. Barnabas Episcopal School. There she was known as "Miss Dodie." She will always be remembered for her help with snack time for delivering the juice and milk, handing out and heating lunches for the children and teachers, making copies and helping supervise the children on the playground. In 1989, she continued as a teacher's aid at Carden-Jackson School. All responsibilities continued, as well as cooking and making lunches for the students and staff. Miss Dodie was a very hard worker and she loved her job. She especially loved all the children.
During her free time, she loved to cook, travel, gamble and was an avid fan of the Astros and Cowboys. She was an excellent cook. Her specialty was spaghetti. Her family teased her about her trips to Louisiana to her bank, L'auberge du lac casino where she made more deposits than withdraws. Win or lose, she always had fun. She traveled many places with family and her friends including a trip to the Ozark Mountains, New York, Arizona (to see her 3rd grade teacher), Disney World, Cruises and last but not least her 2 favorite places, San Antonio and the Wurstfest. She was a great travel buddy and quite a social bug. She loved all her friends, whether it was a phone (or two), an outing, lunch or dinner or cooking for them and their family.
In her younger days, at the age of 8, she was the Poster Child for Rheumatoid Arthritis(RA) while being treated at TX Children's Hospital. RA did not stop her from participating in the Special Olympics. She won numerous trophies and medals for softball, basketball, bowling and track. Dodie was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Ann Jackson and her brother, Neal Allen, Jr. "Chip" Jackson. She is survived by her father, Neal Allen Jackson and her sisters, Lee Ann Jackson and Molly Blair Young and husband, Dr. Michael Young. The Jackson family will receive family and friends for visitation on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 4pm-6pm at Rosewood Funeral Home in Pasadena, TX. A funeral service will be held in her honor in the chapel of Rosewood on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 1pm with a procession departing for a graveside service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery with Fr. Clay Shadeck of St. Paul's Anglican church officiating. Words of comfort may be shared with family @ rosewood.cc

What wonderful fun memories of a caring, loving and sweet Dodie! She brighten everyone's day with her smile and readiness to help in any way she could. She taught the teachers the meaning of friendship and love and acceptance of life's situations. She had that inward beauty, like her wonderful mom, that reflected Jesus' love to everyone; always reaching out to help others.
See you in heaven, Dodie!

Dodie was a friend to everyone and a blessing to all who knew her. Her joy was contagious as she delighted in doing a job well done. Dodie would even be disappointed when she would have to miss a day of school! A wonderful lady was Dodie. I loved her.

What a nice tribute to Dodie. She was such an institution at CJS; I'm not sure that the school could have functioned without her help. I think somewhere in Heaven she is making copies and fussing at people for not picking up their mail in a timely manner. You, her family, allowed her to live a full life.

Dr. Bob and Betty Barr are having loving memories of Dodie, going back to the days when Mollie played softball and Dodie was a big fan of the team and cheered faithfully for that group of very young girls. She was a cheerful inspiration to all who knew her.
