Edwin Schewe Obituary

Edwin "Ed" Schewe, 88, of Pasadena, TX passed away on January 12, 2021 . Ed was born on June 24, 1932 in Janufka, Poland and immigrated from Germany to the United States with his parents and siblings in 1951 settling in lower Michigan.

Ed was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1954-1957 and was a member of the SPJST Fraternal Lodge in Pasadena, TX and the Liederkranz German Club of Houston. After retiring as a master machinist of 40 years, Ed shared his skills and knowledge generously with others. He welcomed the challenge to fix or repair almost anything and took pleasure in lending a hand and helping people. His work ethic, story-telling, and love for dancing will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Johann and Matildhe Schewe; his brothers, Alford and Herbert Schewe; and his sister, Waltraut Wundersee. Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of almost 35 years, Helen Higgins Schewe of Pasadena, TX; his daughters, Karen Schewe and husband, Tim Leite, of Houston; Ivy Rives and husband, Kelly Rives, of Houston; and Susan Morello of Round Rock, TX; his step-daughters, Lisa Williams of Gastonia, NC; Debra Corbett and husband, Bailey Corbett, of Charlotte, NC; and his brothers, Hugo Schewe of St Joseph, Michigan and Walt Schewe of Stevensville, Michigan. Ed was blessed with 11 grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. I just got the sad news that Edwin passed on last year, and so I am sorry that my message is more than a year late. Edwin was the first person who helped me when I came from Michigan seeking work in Houston. His nephew and I were welcomed in his home in December 1981. He was a very fine, and hospitable man, and though we lost touch over the years, I have good memories of him and appreciated what he did for me. My condolences go out to his wife and family.
