Dec 5 1937-Dec 20 2013
Frances (Fran) Nemec Liggett, 76, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at her home in Bedford due to complications from leukemia and emphysema.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 11, at Deer Park Funeral Home in Deer Park, TX.
Fran was born in Bryan, TX and attended A&M Consolidated High School. From an early age she displayed a musical gift, and in her teens she began performing in C&W bands as a singer and keyboardist. She would continue to perform on a part-time basis for over 30 years. During the 60s she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper, including several years at WTAW radio in Bryan. Fran moved to Deer Park in 1970 where she worked as secretary for the athletic department at San Jacinto College until her retirement in 2004. After calling DP home for 41 years, she moved to Bedford in 2011.
Throughout her life, Fran was a devoted mom to her two sons and an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching SJC Raven basketball and also served many years as a volunteer board member for youth baseball leagues. She was an amazingly creative and gifted individual. Aside from her musical talents, she was an accomplished seamstress, possessed a proverbial "green thumb" and, at various times in her life, pursued other hobbies, such as painting, ceramics, and woodworking. Lovingly called "Granny Franny" by her grandchildren, she was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. In her later years she enjoyed watching sports, reading Psalms, and working crosswords and sudoku.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, her parents Antone and Aline Nemec, two brothers, Tony and Louis Nemec, and her precious teacup poodle Georgette.
SURVIVORS: Two sons, Jim and wife Ami of Deer Park, Ronnie and wife Debbie of Colleyville; a sister Joan Colquitt and husband Joe of Katy; grandchildren Eric, Kelsey, Kristen, Justin, Timothy, and Shelby Liggett; sister in-laws Ima Jean Pack of Somerville and Lynn McIlhaney of College Station; her wonderful DP neighbors, and best friend for the last 35 years, Marie Willis and husband Rusty of Deer Park.
