Frank Accomando Obituary

Frank Accomando, registered pharmacist and owner of City Pharmacy, the last independent pharmacy in the Historic District of League City, Texas, at 601 East Main Street, died peacefully at dawn at The Cottages on September 6, 2017 at the age of 89. Frank was born August 13, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents, John and Lena Sciortino Accomando, moved the family to Texas where Frank started school in Galveston. The family became a part of the Italian community on the eastside of Houston; Frank was a 1947 graduate of St. Thomas High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, including having served ten months in combat, as Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army. Frank was a graduate of the University of Houston College Of Pharmacy. In 1996 he was selected as one of 50 outstanding graduates when the College Of Pharmacy observed its fiftieth anniversary. The College Of Pharmacy also recognized him as a "Preceptor of the Year". He was awarded the Vocational Service Award by the Rotary Club of League City "for his significant service exemplifying Rotary ideals to his vocation and community." Frank was a visionary who determined that City Pharmacy friends needed a drive-in window to pick up their prescriptions without leaving their cars, so he had one installed long before Walgreens, where he had been employed for ten years prior to founding City Pharmacy.

Frank was a member of the American and Texas Pharmaceutical Associations, American Legion Post 554 and a former member of the League City Evening Lions Club. Frank was a charter member of the Board of Directors of League City National Bank and was active in St. Mary Catholic Church where he served as a minister of hospitality for thirty years.

Frank lived each day of his life in thanksgiving to God for his many blessings, including the opportunity to serve his "brothers and sisters in Christ" with joy, compassion, patience and love. He loved his God and his family beyond measure.

He is survived by his beloved wife/dance partner of 48 years, Roslyn Louviere Accomando, his precious grandchildren, Andrew Frank and Lauren Ann Accomando; the mother of his grandchildren, Rachel Copelin and her husband, Neil; his sister, Vinci A. Greco; sister-in-law, Alma L. Landry, Loreauville, LA; brother-in-law, Cordell Louviere, New Orleans, LA and numerous other relatives, including nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted pharmacy associates and patrons, as well as family friends who cherished every moment they were able to be with him. His generosity, his smile, joy and love are his legacy to all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, and only son, John Frank Accomando.

Family and friends are invited to the celebration of Frank ' s life on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. Mary Church, 1612 E. Walker, League City. Visitation from 9:00 AM - 12:00; funeral Mass at 12:00 PM. Luncheon immediately following in Cargill Hall, adjacent to the Church. Funeral services provided by Forest Park East Funeral Home. Frank was not only a mentor but a wonderful, caring friend. I learned so much not only about pharmacy but also about being better Christian. I treasure the times we shared. Roslyn, my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your son, John, and now you beloved, Frank. God has two more angels to sing his praises.

I look back often at the years I worked at City Pharmacy with great affection. Frank was so encouraging to me to go back to school and have a career but also was a role model for showing how to balance work and family time. He was truly a man loved by everyone who met him.

Frank was a great person. I remember all our political talks, his advice and even putting a sign in his store front window. Rest in peace my brother in Christ.

Frank was a wonderful man and beautiful person! I'm sure he is in Heaven handing out bulletins and pulling them away as others start to take them. His smile and personality was so very heartwarming.
