Doris Ivalice Kouba was born on August 6, 1933, in Houston, Texas, to George and Doris Herring of Pasadena, Texas. She died peacefully at Limestone County Medical Center in Groesbeck, TX on October, 11, 2013.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents George and Doris Herring, a sister Anne Brear, two brothers Marvin Herring and Joseph Herring, mother-in-law Mable Little and a brother-in-law Richard Kouba.
Doris grew up in Pasadena, Texas, attending elementary, junior high, and high school in the Pasadena school system. She graduated from Pasadena High School in 1951. She was very involved as a Pasadena Eagle being a member of the National Thespian Society - Troupe 579, the A Cappella Choir and participated in "The Curtain Club- Variety Show" along with a variety of plays where she was able to display her acting and dancing abilities.
While a senior in high school, she met and married her one and only love - Bart Kouba. They married on February 17, 1951, in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Pasadena. Together they had three sons, Keith, Kyle, and Kent. Bart and Doris were married 62 years.
After staying home with the boys in their early years, Doris worked for Pasadena I.S.D. selling football season tickets and later became the Athletic Director's secretary. After several years she moved to La Porte ISD and served in the same capacity for the La Porte Athletic Director. Doris retired from La Porte ISD in 1995. She and Bart moved to Hilltop Lakes that same year and have enjoyed their time there together and with their many friends.
While at Hilltop Lakes, Doris joined the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and became very involved with her sorority sisters in community service efforts and events to help the Hilltop Community and the surrounding area. Doris loved getting together with the ladies of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also a regular member of the Kazoo Band that performed on July 4th. Being a part of the sorority gave her a chance to bring back her acting and dancing days from high school along with her training as a clogger - a skill that she often loved to display for her grandchildren. These ladies provided great help and support to Doris and Bart through her illness over the past several months. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Doris and Bart attended Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Madisonville the past several years.
Doris is survived by her husband Bart Kouba of Hilltop Lakes; sisters-in-law Patricia Frantom, Gerrie Jones, Shirley Herring, and Bette Herring; son Keith Kouba and wife Ronda of Deer Park; Kyle and wife Judy of Magnolia; and Kent and wife Kimberly of La Porte. She is also survived by grandchildren: Chris Kouba and wife Hillary, Justin Kouba and wife Sarah, Kelli Wilkins and husband Chad, Jami Kouba, Kara Disney, Katrina Kouba, Jeremy Burrow, Shawn Davis, Brittney Davis, Candice Kouba, Kristina Kouba, Brittany Reel, Corey Reel and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. This strong, caring, spunky lady who was very proud of her family will be greatly missed. Doris was so appreciative of the care and love given to her by her husband Bart. He truly was her love of 62 years.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Grandview Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Hwy., Pasadena, Texas.
