I had Mr McNamara in the 6th grade at Caleb Greenwood Elementary School (1965). I just heard that he passed away in 2020. He was the greatest teacher I ever had and I have such wonderful memories of him. He has remained close to my heart all of these years! What a wonderful man, and one of those special teachers you never forget. I will never forget you!

Mr. McNamara finished checking a class for head lice for me when I went had to leave his school (I was very pregnant) one day. I was a school nurse, now retired. He was the only principal I ever had who would stoop to do this. He also would drive out to pick up kids who weren´t coming to school.
God Bless him!

Dear McNamara Clan,
We always loved getting together with the McNamaras. So many great times were shared. BBQs, dancing and singing and a whole lotta baseball!
We know you have so many great memories to cherish forever.
Love,
The Sullivan Clan

I just learned of his passing today. Mr. Mac as I always called him was such a sweet kind man. He taught me at st Patrick's years ago and I still remember him often. He was always genuine and would always sing me the tell Laura I love her song and when Irish eyes are smiling. He use to say my smile was bright and would light up a room. In class assignments and projects he taught us to speak proudly and be confident. He often talked about hard work and how he grew up. May he rest in peace.

I just found out about Frank’s passing today!
He was a great man and a great mentor!
I was blessed to have known him through being a part of the St. Rose & St. Pat’s community for over 30 years!
He was also a very good friend and colleague of my father while they worked together as Principals in the Sacramento City Unified School District for many years.
Frank was one of the most kind, loving, and faith filled men
that I have been blessed to have ever known.
Eternal rest grant unto his soul o Lord and may perpetual light shine upon his him.
May he Rest In Peace..

My deepest condolences to the McNamara family. Frank was my mentor for several years at St. Anne School. I admired and learned from Frank each and every day. I became a principal as a result of his guidance and leadership. To this day, as I continue to train and teach... I speak of him often as being that " mentor" in my life.
May God bless always,

Dear McNamara Family,
My condolences on your recent loss of Francis “Mugs” McNamara. I am Seth Sandronsky, a former student at Caleb Greenwood Elementary School in the tumultuous 1960s, when Principal McNamara was there. I recall his dynamic spirit that made me feel better no matter what.
Regards,
Seth

I had the pleasure of being one of his students in the early 80s and remember him fondly. He was thoughtful and kind, and he lead the school well without ever being overbearing. My heart goes out to his family and many friends and former colleagues.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. McNamara as my 5th grade teacher at Caleb Greenwood the year he and Sally got married. The class collected money toward a wedding gift. I then had him for my 6th grade teacher before he became principal. Best ever teacher, he set the bar high for anyone following. So sorry for your loss, he will be missed.

Dear Sally and all the family,
You are in my prayers and thoughts at this difficult time. I have forty-three years of happy memories of your family, dating back to the day Joe entered my 7th grade classroom in Sept., 1977 and through 2020 when Peggy and I have taken many fitness classes together. Thanks for the memories.

Sending my heartfelt sympathy to the entire McNamara family. Frank attended my dad’s funeral a few years ago and spoke about my dad. I am sure there is a wonderful reunion planned in Heaven with all the brothers. What a lovely obituary. Frank sounds as if he led a complete and wonderful life.

Frank McNamara was such a gifted man. He touched so many lives and left a most memorable impression. I still remember his leaning on our desks in summer school and making sure we understood a concept he taught in the summer elementary class, while being the principal as well. That was half a century ago but it still remains a positive force.
