Arthur Prindle Obituary

Arthur Prindle
10/29/2025
Arthur William Prindle was born in Stockton, California and spent most of his youth in Albany, California. Art graduated from Albany High School in 1946 where he received the American Legion award. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1950 with a Bachelors degree upon which he entered into the Army where he worked as a Medic at Letterman Hospital at the Presidio in San Francisco. He later returned to U.C. Berkeley where he earned his Master degree in Education, his Elementary School Administrative Credential, and Teaching Credential. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Professional fraternity as well as the National Education Association.
In 1953 he married Margaret Mitchell of San Francisco where they lived for their first three years. In 1956 they bought a home in Walnut Creek and remained there for the rest of their lives. Their first son Philip was born in 1955, second son Brian was born in 1956 and third son John was born in 1962. He and his family traveled extensively through North America in a camper and following his retirement he enjoyed many trips throughout Europe with his wife Margaret.
He served as a teacher and principal in the Lafayette School District for 37 years and was a member of the Rotary Club. He was an active member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St Stephens Catholic Church in Walnut Creek for over 30 years where he served families in need.
In May of 2004 his eldest son Philip passed away. His wife Margaret passed away in July, 2012. He is survived by his two remaining sons as well as five grandchildren and five great-grand children. His passion for genealogy led him to trace his direct family roots to 1653 in New Haven Connecticut.
Arthur passed on his love for nature and gardening on to his children. He took up woodcarving before he retired and carved numerous fish and birds including a four foot Barracuda, a full sized Bald Eagle and a full sized Great Blue Heron which he displayed in his front window. He also carved a Cigar Store Indian and a sixteen foot Totem Pole which he erected in his back yard. He was active with local senior groups. He enjoyed playing Bocce Ball and tended his garden into his 90's.

Debbie Dare

Yesterday

Condolences to all of you on Art Prindle's passing. I'm Debbie Dare, a retired music teacher from the Lafayette School District. Art was the first principal with whom I worked. I started out with a 1/2 time position in 1974. When Art saw that I had recruited 92 students from just his school at Burton and knew that I had 5 other schools to work with, he immediately went to the superintendent to make my position become a full time one instead! How that made my life so much easier! It opened up all sorts of other possibilities and helped me to create the life I have. He was a wonderful colleague and friend whom I will always remember.
