Barbara passed away peacefully in Lafayette, after a two year battle with dementia. She was born and raised in San Francisco, Calif. She was the only child of Josephine and Joseph Ruggiero. She was a very proud San Franciscan and a lifelong SF Giants and 49ers fan, attending games at Seals and Kezar stadiums with her dad. She attended St. Brigid High School and graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor's of science degree. She worked for many years as a medical technologist before her retirement. At SF State she met her future husband, Richard Bugna. They married in 1957 and celebrated 64 years before his passing in 2022. She was a longtime parishioner of Assumption Church in San Leandro where she served many years on the liturgy committee and as an Eucharistic Minister. While in retirement she was better known as "Meema," the best grandmother to her four grandchildren whom she cared for often. She also enjoyed her crossword puzzles, playing bunco, and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Bugna, survived by her children, Rick (Erin) of Vancouver, Wash. and Lisanne Mueller (Paul) of Lafayette Calif.; her grandchildren, Brandon (Lauren) and Eric Bugna, Alyssa Bengford (David) and Julia Mueller; her great-grandson, Brandon Richard Bugna; and many cousins. Funeral will be held at Assumption Church, 1100 Fulton Ave., San Leandro, on March 21 at 11:00 a.m., followed by Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette.
