Joan Danilovich

Joan Marie Danilovich Aug. 6, 1943-Feb. 11, 2011 Long-time Peninsula resident and devoted teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School in Burlingame, died on February 11 after a valiant struggle with cancer. Although Joan had no children of her own, she was much appreciated for her gentle, understanding and nurturing approach as a teacher of young boys and girls. She followed in the footsteps of her mother and sister, and many other relations, who were all education professionals. Joan graduated with a degree in Education from San Jose State in 1965 where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and began her teaching career shortly thereafter. Two years later, Joan had the opportunity to work for California Congressman Jerry Waldie in Washington, DC. Upon her return to California, Joan resumed her teaching at Burlingame and was married for a time to Fred Lauer. After her retirement from teaching, Joan remained active in the community and in the course of her day she often encountered former students and parents and even her former student's children. She was sincerely gratified by their continued friendship. Joan was the beloved daughter of Jack and Alice Danilovich (deceased) and the sister of Diane Sheffield (deceased) and John Danilovich of London, and aunt of several nieces and nephews. Joan will be greatly missed by them, their families and an untold number of her extended family. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass at 10:30 am on Friday, February 25th at St Catherine of Siena Church at 1310 Bayswater Avenue, Burlingame.
