Our beloved brother, uncle, and brother-in-law, Rob Norby, passed away suddenly near his home on the Big Island of Hawaii on May 17, 2013. Rob was born in Redwood City, lived in Menlo Park for many years, attended Menlo-Atherton High School, UC Davis and Cal Berkeley. He was an avid gardener and lived in Volcano, Hawaii for the past 25 years. Rob was a loyal friend and generous soul. His spirit lives on in the many memories we have of him. He is survived by his sister, Kris Norby-Moseman of Rancho Santa Fe, brother, Rick Norby of Cupertino, brother-in-law, Karl Moseman, and niece and nephew, Greer and Gunnar Moseman. Private memorial service to be held in Hilo, Hawaii.

Aloha to the Norby Family and friends of Rob,
I spent some time with Rob in the last few years. Rob loved sports. He was so happy when the Giants (finally) won the World Series in 2010 (for his 50th birthday!) He loved puttering around with his different golf carts and dreaming of different courses he'd like to play. We talked about all the golf courses in Ireland he thought he'd like to play. His personal (one hole only) golf course at his house was his favorite. Rob was a very good poker player. We enjoyed quite a few really good games and a friendly rivalry about who won the most on any night.
Rob was extremely proud to be an uncle and he thought his niece and nephew were brilliant, attributed to their mother. He thought his sister was beautiful and smart. He was proud to say that his brother would have been in the stands when the Giants won the series. He loved gardening and he attributed his interest to when he spent time gardening with his mother.
Rob was just as proud of being Norwegian. “It's hard to be humble when you are Norwegian”; it just fit his feisty personality.
Goodbye Rob. Thanks for all the good times we had!
Love,
Kate Bell

Hi Krissy and Rick,
I remember when Rob showed up at Flood and he was the fastest kid in the school. We spent a lot of time together in classes at Flood Elementary school, at cub scouts, and just hanging out at the house on Ringwood. Lost track after high school, but heard occasional reports on Rob in HI from Rick.
Too soon, Rob. Rest in Peace.

Time goes by but the memories remain, we had a lot of good times during our high school years! Rob was a lot of things to many people and will be missed tremendously. Wish your family comfort and peace...

Heartfelt condolences to you all! I haven't seen Rob in decades now, but I always think of him as being so quietly funny. I had to really listen to hear him, and of course there were several times when I got in trouble for laughing - no teacher ever expected Rob to be the culprit! He was a kind soul, and his spirit will live on through all of you. My thoughts are with you all. Best, Sally

Krissy and Rick,
I am so sorry to hear about Rob's passing. He was a very good friend to me and my family during all my high school years. I had not seen or heard from him in a very long time, but I still think of him often. We had countless hours hanging out, playing basketball, tennis, etc. And as Patty mentioned, Rob and I double-dated to the prom with the Stephens twins during our senior year. We had a great time. My wife Molly and I visited with Rob in Hawaii many years ago, and he was a great host.
Rob was a good friend. A best friend for me through the formative years of my life, and I will always remember the good times we had together.
I hope to see you both some time soon.
Sincere sympathies,
Peter Hoberg

Hello Krissy and Norby Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sending love and prayers to you all. I was just shocked to see this in the paper today and so sad to hear it. I always wondered where Rob was living and hoped he was well. I also hoped to see him at one of our MA reunions (not many of them), but never had the chance. He was a special person and I was lucky to know him and have him part of my high school years. He was a great prom date and friend too - so kind, sensitive and considerate to make sure I had a great time. We had fun double dating with Betsy and Peter Hoberg - lots of good laughs.
You are a wonderful family and I am sure Rob was a great brother, uncle and son too. xox patty stephens woodruff. ps Kris - i will try to find you on fb.
