James Clark Obituary

James "Jim" Clark passed away on March 19, 2026. He now reunites with his beloved wife, Joanne, along with many others who went before him.

Jim stepped into leadership early, helping guide his family during his teenage years, a responsibility that shaped his life. He attended St. Mary's High School, where he earned the nickname "Chrome" and played football for the Flying Dutchmen. He later attended Indiana State University in Indiana, Pennsylvania, earning a degree in education.

He built a successful career beginning with Sears, where over the years he also became known for portraying Santa-a role he embraced with pride and joy. He rose to executive leadership in New York City overseeing women's apparel and shared the experience of the Big Apple with his sister Cathy, believing strongly in the idea that if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. He later served as Vice President of Truck Stops of America in Nashville, went on to open Pitts Meats in Pensacola, Florida, and eventually settled in Arizona, where he and Joanne built their life together.

Jim raised his children, Michael and Gwen, with discipline, encouragement, and a simple philosophy: "Try it." If something sparked interest, pursue it.

He was known for his humor, his no-nonsense approach, and his love of cooking. His table was always open-anyone who showed up was welcome.

In later years, Jim faced life as an amputee with strength and resilience, supporting others and co-authoring the book "The Aging Amputee."

He is survived by his children, Michael Clark (Keela) and Gwen Manlove (Gary), and his grandchildren-Maegan Blau, Katie Clark, Nick Manlove, and Lauren Manlove. To them, he was also known as "Hoho," a nickname earned through years of bringing joy as Santa and through the love he shared with his family and others.

Jim was a warrior to the end. In his final hours, surrounded by family, he shared a quiet smile while enjoying a taste of Coors Light, a simple moment reflecting a life well lived.

If Jim were here today, he would say:

"The glass is not half full-the glass is always full."
