LAKELAND - Joyce Lent Bode, 85, of Lakeland, FL, passed away on September 8, 2018. Born November 14, 1932 to Stephen 'Marshall' and Doris Lent in Sacramento, CA.
She was free-spirited, independent, adventurous and loved helping people. In her earlier years, she enjoyed horseback riding, camping, water and snow skiing, scuba diving, flying small planes and riding motorcycles. In her later years, she enjoyed genealogy, scrapbooking and making handmade cards.
At the age of 50, she received her Masters Degree in Geology from the University of Colorado. She worked as a geologist for the remainder of her career and retired from Cargill Fertilizer in 2001. She belonged to many associations and organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Florida Paleontology Society, Business and Professional Women's Foundation, Lakeland Genealogy Society, and Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
She was a lifetime Unitarian Universalist and a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lakeland. Her faith gave her joy and she returned that joy to others. She was a generous person and donated her body to medical research hoping that it would help others.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Lent, and is survived by her brothers, Doug and Randy Lent, her daughters, Jeri (Eddie) Wilson and Linda (Mark) Walters, her son Robert 'Bobby' Bode, as well as six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held in a few weeks.
