Nicholas George Poulos

POULOS, Nicholas George, M.D., peacefully passed away on February 27, 2022, after a remarkable 91 years of life.

Nick was the only child of George and Marianthi Paraskevopoulos. His father immigrated from Greece via Ellis Island and sometime thereafter, abbreviated his name to Poulos. Nick was a lifelong member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served in several leadership roles through his lifetime. Nick was proud of his Greek heritage and culture and nurtured that legacy with his children and grandchildren.

He graduated from John Marshall High School, The University of Richmond and received his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in 1955. Dr. Poulos opened his practice as a general surgeon and later, served as Chief of Staff at Retreat Hospital and Henrico Doctors' Hospital. He retired in 1995, after 30 years of practice.

Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He met the great love of his life, Martha Steve Fasul, at her sister's wedding, where she was Maid of Honor and he, Best Man. He soon talked her into becoming his "beautiful bride" in Richmond, Va. He was a devoted husband of 63 years and leaves Martha; their four children, Marian LaClair (Larry), Maria Batsakes (Peter), George Poulos (Susan), Vivian Poulos; and 10 grandchildren to cherish his memory. He was also a beloved member of the Andre Family and one can only imagine the ouzo flowing at the happy heavenly reunion with dear friends long gone.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., where a Trisagion Service will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Malvern Ave., Richmond, Va. 23221, with interment to follow in Riverview Cemetery, 1401 S. Randolph St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Nick's honor to St. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral at vagocathedral.org or to the American Cancer Society.
