Joseph Wernert Obituary
August 31, 1941 - June 24, 2025
Joseph Girard Wernert passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, in Stockbridge, Georgia, after a full life devoted to God, family, and country. He was born on August 31, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Clifford and Frances Wernert.
A 1959 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Joe went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo and a master's degree from Webster College. While attending the University of Toledo, he met and married the love of his life, Janice Blaser.
Joe served the U.S. Army for the next 34 years in both active duty and civilian roles. During his tour in Vietnam, he earned the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medals.
Joe remained active in service to his faith and community throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and after retirement, he became part of the volunteer team managing the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Hapeville, Georgia.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his children, Amy, Joel, and Karen; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his brothers, James, Philip, and Stephen.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 30, at St. Philip Benizi Church, Jonesboro, GA.
Joe will be laid to rest at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, GA.
