William McCready Obituary

William S. McCready, age 61, of Maumee, died Sunday, February 26, 2006, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 5, 1944, to William R. and Cicely M. (Foreman) McCready. Bill graduated from Ottawa Hills High School, The Ohio State University and The University of Toledo College of Law in 1969. He began his law career with Ritter, Robinson, McCready and James in 1970. Bill served as prosecutor for the City of Maumee from 1972-1974; Assistant Solicitor for Maumee from 1973-1976 and was the Village Solicitor for Ottawa Hills from 1977-2005. Bill served on the Civil Service Commission in Maumee, Board of Directors at Swan Creek Retirement Village, serving several years as chairman of the board. He also served on the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement System Foundation for many years. His memberships included the Toledo, Ohio and American Bar Associations, Ohio State Bar Foundation Fellows Class of 2000, Ohio Municipal Attorney's Association, Toledo Law Association, Maumee Chamber of Commerce and The Ohio State University Alumni Club. Bill was the ultimate Buckeye fan and enjoyed all Ohio State sports. He loved practicing law and looked forward every day to something new and challenging. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family throughout the United States and overseas. He took great joy in spending endless hours in his garden and the beautiful birds and wildlife it attracted. Bill's family was the most important part of his life. He was especially proud of his children and their accomplishments.
Surviving is his loving wife of 36 years, Marcia McCready; daughter, Kelley (Craig) Shively of Columbus, OH; Andrew William McCready of Perth, Australia; grandson, Cameron Charles Shively. A second grandchild to be born this summer was a special source of pride to Bill. Also surviving is his sister, Kathy (Will) Finical of Bullhead City, AZ and many other loving family members and friends who will dearly miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carole Ann McCready; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Chester and Lucille Simms, and a very dear and close friend, Robert C. Mehring.
A celebration of Bill's life will take place in the spring. Details will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Bill and his family wish memorial contributions be made to a charity that has special meaning to the donor or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Arrangements by Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee.

I do not think I could have asked for a better Uncle, a better husband for my Aunt Marcia, a better father for my cousins Kelly and Andy, if my father, my Aunt Sharon and my grandparents had picked him out themselves; because they would have only ended up with my one of a kind and only ¨Uncle Bill¨ We will all love him and miss him tremendously! We look forward to joining you in heaven in the future!

We love Uncle Bill and we miss him already. He was a dear Uncle and wonderful part of all our lives. I truly cherish my childhood memories of him, but I especially cherish the memories of him more recently. Your visit with my family in Virginia a few years ago, and then more recently in Miami and then our big family gathering in Melbourne - we will always be grateful for that time together. My dear sweet Aunt Marcia, Kelley and family and Andy you all are in our prayers daily as you grieve over the loss of your precious husband and father. We love you and care for you.

Marcia -

I was saddened to hear of Bill's illness and now your recent loss when all my memories of him are as a vital, enthusiastic and deeply caring man. I was so lucky to have someone like Bill give me my first (professional) job! I stopped in the office a few times to say hello since I moved and Bill always took time to chat. I know everyone who knew him will miss him. Take care. Our thoughts are with you. Dan & Erin Moore

I believe Mr. McCready was my 6th grade teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas School the year he finished law school. I remember him as a warm and caring man who loved to laugh. My thoughts are with you; hold on to your memories, as will I.
