Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Messmer Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Nicolas, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Rick Shirley and boys, Another year has gone by but Nick's memory stays close in my heart. Please know I am still thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.

August 19, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I stand today in awe of the sacrifice of this brave young soldier. I did not have the honor of knowing him while he was with us, however I work with Rick Messmer at Nationwide. I don't know him well because there is a generation gap between us but in making the ultimate sacrifice for our country (Nick giving his life for our freedom) that gap is now closed. I parked behind Rick for about a week and happened to see the memorial on his truck honoring Nick and was moved to tears. My God bless his family and may he enjoy his everlasting life in that special section of heaven reserved for Marines.

Dear Rick, Shirley and family, An article in our Hartford, CT newspaper was brought to our attention concerning the memorials being built for our fallen. Our hearts broke to hear of your son, Nicolas, being killed on Mother's Day 2005. Our son too perished in Iraq on that very day. Please know that we lift you up in our prayers and we will hold you close in our hearts. Your son is a precious gift to us all and as you press on through your journey of grief, we pray that you look to God for peace and find goodness in the love and honor that is given to Nicolas and to your family.

Please accept the heartfelt sympathies and the Proud and Honorable thank yous for the loving life you have given in support of Freedom. I am an Ohio Marine Mom too, my son stationed in Baghdad. I have shed many tears for all our fallen and the families left behind. WE WILL NOT FORGET. You do NOT grieve alone. I wish that throughout the years of this war that I had learned one thing to say that would help. Alas, I cannot. Words do not justify the loss and pain of the ultimate sacrifice. Please know though, you are in my heart, in my prayers, mixing my tears with yours, and understanding how your greatest fear became a really harsh reality. I wish, pray, with all my heart, mind, body and soul, that NO ONE would EVER have to face this. In ending, my sorrow I share with you. My thanks for your ultimate sacrifice I send. May God have eternal mercy upon all our Blessed Souls.

Nick your greatly missed and this really sucks here without you.We were really looking forward to you coming home next month. I'm still in denial over this and am having trouble accepting that it has happened.I never thought I would have to experience something like this with one of my brothers and truthfully I don't know what to do with myself.Nick although your not here with us anymore I will still look up to you as my older brother anyway.People say that the good die young and after this I'm really beginning to beleive this saying is more true than i had ever expected it to be. Your loss is our loss,,,your sadness is our sadness,,,for we are all from the same family...

there are no words to express our hope that your family can and will remain strong...other than our reassurance that He will not abandon you in this time of need, this time of question, this time of deep loss.

Our Lord said it best,,,,"there is no greater love than to give one's life for one of God's children".

Nick is the greatest example of God's love...our profound admiration and thanks to your son for his greatest gift,,,,himself.

Nick served our country and put his life on the line for our freedom. I remember when me and my father would go to his house his dad and my dad would hang out. Me nick and all of his brothers would take his golf cart in his back yard and try and flip it. Well there are plenty of memories to remember. We will miss him greatly and his family has my thoughts and prayers. Nick will always be remembered by us all for the way he served our country. My deepest sympathys go out to the Messmer family. May we always remember Nick.
