Kenneth Earl Rosland

Rosland, Kenneth Earl Age 79, of Edina. Born October 23, 1933, Minneapolis, MN. Survived by sister, LaDonna (Bill) Clarke; brother, Rusty; and sons, Tim (Carmen) and Paul (Katie); and grandchildren, Kristen, Sarah and Jack. Ken graduated from Washburn High School lettering in track, cross country and skiing. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1957, after serving two years with the U.S. Army. He began his public service career with the City of Edina in 1957, becoming Director of Parks and Recreation in 1961 and City Manager in 1977. Ken's passion for the Parks is carried through the community with the development of Braemar Golf Course, Braemar Arena, Edinborough Park, Centennial Lakes Park and over hundreds of acres of community park land. During his career as Parks Director and City Manager, Ken created many of the boards and commissions which are still a vital function within the city today. Known as the "Father of Court Clubs" he created the nation's first Racquetball and Handball only club in 1967. In his retirement, he continued his service as a member of the Edina Crime Prevention Fund and Edina Art Center Board. He launched the Edina Fall into the Arts Festival as a fundraiser for the Edina Crime Prevention Fund. In 1998 the Edina Pool Park was renamed Rosland Park in his honor for his many years of dedicated service to the community. His loves included the City of Edina, golf, music, The Vikings and most of all his children and grandchildren. Ken is beloved by his family and the community.
