Eleanor, Lil always said you were "the ONE for Bill"- so it was. All the Abbots will remember him for his unique humor, and his joy of knowing George better than anyone else in the world-50 Volumes!!

Eleanor, Betsy and I have been out of town for over six weeks and have only learned of Bill's death. We are so sorry and send our sympathies. I remember Bill as a fine teacher at William and Mary and as friend here. He will be missed by many. Be assured of our thoughts and prayers and take best care of yourself. David and Betsy Poist

To Eleanor, Bill Abbott was indeed one of the finest teachers . He taught me so much about research and I will be forever grateful to him. I worked for him for four years and thought of him as a friend. My deepest sympathies. I too mourn his loss. My deepest condolences and prayers. Nancy Morris

Dear Eleanor, Wright and John,
I was saddened to learn of Bill's death. Bill and Jim were truly stalwarts of their generation, and their legacies will endure. Please know that you are in my prayers and thoughts during these dark days.

Dear Mrs. Abbot and family,
Dr. Abbot gave me a job many years ago when I was a bride, and I am always grateful for that wonderful opportunity. He was a fellow Georgian and "knew" me well. I can attribute a lot of my work ethic and skills to my time spent with him as a great mentor at the Washington Papers. He will be greatly missed.
