Schertz Funeral Home and Crematory - SchertzOtto “Bill” William Vargas
September 3, 1960 – October 9, 2025
Otto William Vargas, 65, of Schertz, Texas, passed away surrounded by his family on October 9, 2025.
Born on September 3, 1960, in Galveston, Texas, to Otto and Marcia Vargas. He is preceded in death by his father Otto Vargas Jr.; and his siblings Cindy Vargas, Robert Vargas, Lucy Vargas, and Leesa Riordan.
He is survived by his mother, Marcia Sanchez; his spouse, Sandi Faber; his former wife Nicci Vargas and their sons Ryan Vargas and wife Svea, Justis Vargas and wife Nicole, and Zachary Vargas and partner Brittany; his daughter, Melissa Lutterbie-Vargas-Barber and husband Ken; and his grandchildren Judah, Heaven, Myles, Kiya, Justis, Gavin, Xi, Kamden, Rhyselle, and Ezrielle.
Otto was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures — tending to his garden, cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers, collecting Hot Wheels, and enjoying a cold Lone Star surrounded by the people he loved. As his friend Paul Ray said, “He had the biggest heart I’ve ever seen”
Melissa writes, “Otto was loved deeply by many, and he loved just as deeply in return. Some who were touched by his kindness even chose to take his last name, a reflection of how profoundly he shaped their lives. Though they weren’t born into his family, he made them feel as if they always had been.”
Otto leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and family that will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 14th at 2:00 PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz, with a reception meal immediately following at the church. The celebration will continue with a gathering at Sandi and Otto’s home. All are welcome to join in celebrating Otto’s life and honoring his memory.
He is deeply missed by his family and friends.
