Obituary published on Legacy.com by Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel - Monrovia on May 19, 2023.
The baby of the family, Arthur Lane Scott, Jr. arrived on the scene many years after his three half siblings. He was born on July 6, 1950, in
New Castle, Indiana, to the late Arthur Lane, Sr. and Helen (Miller) Hopkins Scott.
With a Southern Baptist rural upbringing, Art grew up on a small farm. He attended Westwood Elementary and graduated from Chrysler High School. The sound of a nearby train and the smell of smoking beef were just some of the cherished memories that reminded him of home. Receiving the perfect attendance award in Sunday school for 12 straight years, his Christian-born lifestyle was the foundation of all he would become.
Eager to pursue his studies at Indiana University, he received a bachelor's degree from Indiana University majoring in Forensic Sciences-Criminal Law with a minor in political sciences/history. Devoting 33 years of public service with the Indianapolis Police Department, Art began patrolling in the Adams Sector in 1973, he then served as the North District Detective for 21 years, before deservingly retiring in 2006. Diligent to provide for his family, he was tireless to take on security side gigs and was relentless to excel in all that was tossed on him. He was an avid learner who loved to read and made sure to always stay busy. A highly skilled sharpshooter and gun enthusiast, Art was also a member of the NRA and FOP and may most recently be remembered from working out at Guns and Ordinance in Hall, where he shared his knowledge with all who would listen. A collector of coins and comic books, he loved to be outside and found great solace in owning a motorcycle. Riding his first one at the age of seventeen, he was blessed to experience Sturgis after retiring. His selfless commitment and relentless desire to provide for his three girls, his world became brighter when they entered this world. He took great joy in teasing them, sometimes relentlessly.
A man who truly loved animals, he enjoyed working on the horse farm and he loved cats most of all, owning several throughout his life. Preferring to keep his social circle a bit smaller than most, his group was limited to family and a few coworkers. A practical joker, he had a dry sense of humor and a subtle way of making people laugh. He was calm, confident, and seemingly collected. His career was more of a lifestyle than a way to make a living, and he was patient and one to overdo affection. Art was a great listener and loved his family deeply. He will be forever missed.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three older halfsiblings, Shirley, Jimmy and Ronnie Hopkins; and a grandson, Ashton Scott Humphreys; mother of his first two daughters and first love, Deborah "Debby" Holwager Scott.
Survivors include his daughters, Katherine "Kathy" Faulkenberg (husband, Brian) of Monrovia, Karla Scott ( husband, Craig Goralski) of Lebanon, and Rebecca "Becky" Achenbach of (husband, Caleb) of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Erin Hays, Grace and Lane Faulkenberg, Avery Zimmer, Aurora and Isabelle Achenbach; along with a host of extended family members and a feline companion named Missy.
