Betty Garrod Obituary

Betty was born on April 17, 1926, in East Palestine, Ohio, to the late James and Margaret (Mahaney) Akenhead and graduated from East Palestine High School in 1944.
She worked for J.M. Smucker Company as a traffic clerk for their fleet of trucks and 16 drivers and retired in 1991. Before Smucker's she worked at Orrville Heating & Cooling and Murray's Bakery.
Betty was a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and Orrville Jelly City Seniors. She taught Girl Scouts and Bible School, liked playing cards and her favorite was euchre, enjoyed crocheting, making "Grandma Betty" cookies for everybody, playing bingo, going to senior luncheons, watching softball at Orr park, loved helping others, and spending time with her grandchildren and hosting Easter egg dyeing day with all the kids.
Surviving are two daughters, Sherry (Stan) Mehringer of Massillon, and Shirley (Dennis) Horst of Smithville; five grandchildren, Melisa (Sean), Matthew (Sancy), Holly (Heather), Kerri (Andy), and Paul (Steph); twelve great grandchildren, Cassandra (Lance), Breanna, Preston, Logan, Bree, Katie, Gabbi, Hunter, Emma, Addie, Ben, and Paisley; nephew, Dan Akenhead.
She was preceded in death by brother and sister in-law, James & Vivian Akenhead; and nephew, James Akenhead.
Friends may call on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 300 S. Walnut St., Orrville, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, with Pastor Paul Simonsen officiating. A private burial will take place at the East Chippewa Church Cemetery in Orrville.
