LeeAnn Marie McCarty Evans, 42, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024. LeeAnn was born on May 29, 1982, in Ohio. LeeAnn's life was a testament to her remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and dedication to others.
She is survived by her sister, Angelina Terry, of Kansas, and her two beloved nephews, Cody Stiles and Clayton Terry. Eldest sister, Meretta McCarty, in
Raleigh, NC. Her family also extends to Jessenia Molina and Layanna Molina, whom she embraced as daughter and granddaughter, whom she cherished deeply.
LeeAnn had a loving and supportive circle of friends in Wilmington, NC.
LeeAnn's extended family included the Wheeler family, where she found joy in her time spent with Aunt Ginger and Uncle John Wheeler, who remained by her side until her final moments. Her connection with the Wheelers began through Falcon's Children's Home, where John and Judy Gipson, known to her as "Momma Judy," became like family. LeeAnn's relationship with Judy and John was profoundly close, and both have since passed.
Known for her vibrant spirit, LeeAnn had the remarkable ability to light up any room with her smile. Her infectious laugh and passionate conversations about life left a warm impact on everyone she met. Her faith in Christ Jesus and her resilience were sources of inspiration, turning her struggles into a testament of strength and perseverance. Despite facing significant challenges, LeeAnn remained selfless, always prioritizing the needs of others above her own. Her faith and dedication were evident in both her professional and personal life.
A proud graduate of Cape Fear High School, Class of 2000, LeeAnn continued her education at Liberty University and Emmanuel University. Her professional journey led her to become the Director for AFS in North Carolina, where she provided children with opportunities she had longed for in her own youth. She also earned a degree in Biblical Studies, deepening her relationship with the Lord.
LeeAnn's love for the beach and her warm, engaging presence were deeply felt by many, including her friends at Duplin County DSS, who admired her greatly. Her life, marked by selflessness and an enduring spirit, was a shining example to all who knew her.
As we say goodbye, we find comfort in knowing LeeAnn is now embraced in the loving arms of Christ Jesus, her faith guiding her until the end. She will be remembered for her incredible courage, her love for others, and her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
