Lucia G. Garcia, affectionately known as Lucy, graced this world with her vibrant presence on August 31, 1946, in San Diego, Texas. She departed just as gracefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on October 15, 2024. Lucy will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Lucy was a beacon of joy and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her compassion knew no bounds, and she touched the lives of many through her work as a dedicated program director for Casa R.E.A.L. Her commitment to service extended into her active participation in her faith community at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and as a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Daughters.
Lucy's love for life was infectious, and she could often be found at the heart of celebrations singing, joking, and spreading laughter among all. She was a talented cook, renowned for her menudo and tamales, and her delicious homemade meals. Lucy's legacy as a great cook and the life of the party will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Family was Lucy's world, and she was the proud matriarch whose eyes sparkled with pride at the mention of her children's and grandchildren's achievements.
Lucy is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Pedro Garcia; her parents, Federico and Eloisa Garza; her son, Henry "Hank" Garza; her daughter, Roxanne Lopez Santos; and sisters, Argelia "Angie" Garcia and Diana (Jorge) Aguayo. Her legacy of love and laughter lives on through her daughter, Laura Mia (Roberto) Cabrera; her son, Pedro "Pete" (Brunilda) Garcia; her adored grandchildren, Pete Garcia, Matthew Garcia, Ysenia Lucia Cabrera, Peyton Mia Garcia, Henry "Hank" Garza, Dacey Garza, Alexis Sanchez, and John A. Sanchez; two great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family; and dear friends, who will fondly remember her laughter, love and joy she brought to their lives.
Lucy's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but the impact of her love and joy will resonate for generations to come. As we celebrate her life, let us remember the happiness she brought into our lives and strive to emulate her kindness and zest for life in our own. Lucy, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, will forever be in our hearts.
