Nathan Larry Higgins, 60, passed away June 27, 2021, at his residence in
Clearfield, Utah. Nate was born March 27, 1961, in Petaluma, CA, to Larry Delos and Kaleen A. Higgins. He was the middle child having an older sister and younger brother. He spent most of his childhood in Petaluma, attending McKinley Elementary and Petaluma Junior High schools. He has wonderful memories of learning to play the drums, playing in the family swimming pool, and having Toby, their dog, wait for him to get off the bus from school each day. His family then moved to
Thatcher, Idaho, to be nearer to their families, where he worked on his uncle's dairy farm. Nate attended Grace High School, where he worked on the yearbook staff, and his love of photography began. When his father became the Chief of Police in
Bountiful, Utah, the family relocated there. He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1979 as a Bountiful Brave. While in high school, he worked in his uncle's autobody shop as he prepared for his mission.
Nate was called to the Missouri-St. Louis Mission under the direction of President Leon Hartshorn. When he returned from his mission, he met Edith Jean Burnfield, and they were married in the Jordan River Temple. They had three children: Kira Ann, Joshua Nathaniel, and Bryson Jarom.
While working as a Sargent in the corrections facility for the Davis County Sheriff, his wife Edith, passed away. A year later, he met and married Katie Nielsen. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He adopted her children, Bud Larry and Jessica Diane, where the entire family was later sealed in the Ogden temple. Nate and Katie raised all five of their children in
Clearfield, Utah, where they have lived for the last 29 years.
Nate has always loved the big trucks and had a desire to drive them. He got his CDL and drove for Watkins-Shepard, Pacific Rim Transport, and MBM. He also worked as a terminal manager for Watkins-Shepard and safety manager for CR England and MountainWest Mulit-modal in Salt Lake City. His hobbies were model railroading, photography, and model building. He loved NASCAR and built models of the cars of his favorite drivers Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott.
He is survived by his wife, Katie; and his five children, Kira (Dan), Bud (Megan), Jessica (Austin), Joshua (Samantha), and Bryson (Anneliese); and 11 grandchildren, Brinley, Madi, Riker, Holdyn, Jase, Raleigh, Ayva, Presley, Macie, Jaxson, Blake, one more due in December; and close family friend, Janet Little.
He is also survived by his parents, Larry and Kaleen Higgins; his sister, Cindy; and brother, David (Melanie); his aunts and uncles, Shirley and Doyle Lloyd, Mary Lester, Karen Johnson, and Jean and Richard Philpott.
