Robert Malcolm Moore, 100, of South
Yarmouth, Massachusetts, peacefully passed away on March 30, 2025. Robert was born to parents Dorothy and James Moore on May 29, 1924, in Memphis, Tennessee, and then moved to Greenville, NC. After his father died, the family moved to Southern California in 1932.
After he graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 1942, he took a job in Fairbanks, Alaska working construction. Months later he joined the Navy and was stationed in the Soloman Islands during World War II. In 1945, Bob joined the V-12 Navy College Training Program and was sent to Boston to study Engineering at MIT and Tufts University. The program ended before he could finish. With no financial means to continue his education, he moved to Chatham, MA and took a job at Chatham Woodworking. He worked for 55 years as a master woodworker, eventually becoming its owner. After retiring, he continued to work part time for another 10 years.
Bob gave freely of himself and developed life-long friendships with people from all walks of life. If anyone needed anything, they went to Bob. He was a pillar in the Chatham community and believed in volunteer work. He was a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT for the Chatham Fire Department for 30 years. After he retired, he was a volunteer at the Yarmouth Senior Center for another 22 years delivering Meals-On-Wheels to seniors, even though he himself was well into his 90's.
Bob loved life. He was an avid reader and never stopped learning. As an avid reader, he was curious about everything. You would often find him sitting among a stack of books on topics ranging from his time in the war, to aviation, and politics. He was the kindest, gentlest man and taught by example.
Bob met his wife and soulmate Eileen Theresa MacDonald in 1956, and in 1958 they were married in Hyannis, MA. Together, Bob and his beloved wife Eileen made an extraordinary love-filled life together. He built the beautiful home that they shared for 63 years, and then he endured another 3.5 years mourning her loss.
