Robert E. Stanton "Bob" of Philadelphia passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Bob was the beloved husband of Ann (nee) Maggioncalda), Loving father of James (Jenny), Nancy Houston (Mick), Kathy Martinez (John), Stephen (Lauren) and Jon (Colleen); cherished Pop-Pop of Halie, Allison, Kelly, Paige, Brendan, Ryan, Ian, Olivia, Sean, Isabella and Layla Stanton and Mason and Michael Houston and dear brother of Suzanne Hannon and James Stanton.
Bob was born and raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. His mother, Rose, hailed from County Tyrone and his father, Robert Sr., from County Mayo in Ireland. He attended St. Francis of Assisi School and was a member of the North Catholic Class of 1964. He and his wife, Ann, married in 1967 (55 years) and settled in the Lawncrest neighborhood where they raised their 5 children. Bob began as a computer systems programmer on mainframes just as the world was becoming computerized. He spent many years programming and problem solving computers for companies like ACME, Certainteed and SunGuard. He often did consulting on the side and loved his part time job of driving the Inquirer truck on Saturday nights to deliver the Sunday paper. He was a man who enjoyed simple pleasures. His favorite place to be was home with his family around the dinner table hearing about everyone's day or sitting on the porch on Stevens Street talking with the neighbors. He also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends. Give him a Pepsi, some pretzels, a Phillies game and he was happy! Bob's best role in life was that of Pop-Pop. He was a smiling and patient grandfather to 13. He loved to tell silly jokes and talk like Donald Duck, anything to make them laugh. He was always happy to serve as babysitter or as a licensed driving buddy for the newly permitted teenager on extended drives. He is also well known for his infectious laughter that was usually brought about in the presence of his sister Suzanne and brother Jim. He will be missed by family and friends!
Relatives and friends are invited to share in Bob's Life Celebration Saturday, November 19, 2022, starting at 9:00 AM followed by a brief Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Craft/Givnish of Abington, 1801 Old York Rd.
