Stephen Matson of Harvard, MA passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the age of 74. Stephen was a chemical engineer, entrepreneur, inventor, professor, adventurer, and loving grandfather.
He was a graduate of Cornell University (BA/MA) and the University of Pennsylvania (PhD). Stephen co-founded the Marlborough-based pharmaceutical company Sepracor Inc. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1995 for his achievements as an inventor of new membrane technologies. An avid traveler who had climbed mountains around the world, he loved exploring Acadia National Park with his family every summer.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 51 years Stella, son Jeffrey Matson and wife Megan McIntyre, daughter Sara Griffin and husband Patrick Griffin, as well as grandsons Oliver, Ryan, and Eric.
