Walter Dee Howell Jr. passed away at age 90 on Sunday, May 1, 2022 in Franklin, TN.
Born July 30, 1931 in East Nashville shortly after graduating from Father Ryan High School, Walter enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Coral Sea and stationed at US Naval Base San Diego in California. Following his time with the Navy, Walter moved to Los Angeles, California and began working for Goodhew Ambulance Service. During his multi-decade career at Goodhew, Walter worked in a variety of roles, beginning in the mailroom, becoming a dispatcher/driver to being President of the company at the time he retired and sold the company.
Walter will be remembered by his friends and family for his kindness, generosity, quiet humor, love of the game of golf, and his work ethic. His wry smile and quiet determination will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy (Connelly) Howell, his parents Walter/Helen and sisters, Catherine, Marie Therese (Dennis surviving).
Walter is survived by his son, Wade Thompson (Julie) and grandsons, Gavin, Quinn, and Cole. His brother-in-law Ken Connelly (Vivian), sister-in-law Peggy Marsh and many other family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Madison, TN. visitation will be at 9am, followed by mass at 10am. Entombment will take place following mass at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery in Nashville, TN.
