My condolences to his wife Barbara, son Wesley, and the rest of his family. I met Gary when he visited his uncle in Chicago, IL, Raymond Haymond who was a mentor to me, during the summer of his H.S. senior year We jad a good time getting to know each other. During the fall of that year, I took a road trip with his Uncle Ray to visit Newark, DE. I met most of his family including his grandfather. While there I had the pleasure of attending the very exciting Blue/Gold All Star Football game. He was truly a Star that day. He was actually the highlight of the game. The following years, he went to Penn State and I attended Morehouse College. We seldom communicated after he went into the NFL. Life moved on for both of us. In January of 2015, I came to New Castle, DE to visit a old friend of mine and was eager to see him after many years. It was a short stay in Delaware. After I returned home I was preoccupied with family illness and more. I never had time to visit again as I wished
He was always kind and civic minded as I was. My prayer is for the comfort of him and his family, that our Father will continue to bless him as he continues his eternal journey.
In His Love,
Bill Heid

Gary was married to my cousin Barbara. My wife Abby and I met him at family reunions. In addition, I saw him play in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans in 1972. Abby and I liked Gary very much. We learned so much more from the obituary which was very impressive. He will be missed by our family and the world he worked so hard to make better.

Gary was an amazing person and athlete. Off the field he followed his own path, while on the field he created it.
You put the ball in his hands and you never knew what was going to happen. He gave us those “How did he do that” moments and bailed us out of some tough situations on many an occasions.
Gary was a good man who always had a smile on his face and a great teammate.
Seeing him at our reunions was always a treat for me.
May God bless and keep Gary Hayman.

Gary was our teammate at Penn State starting in the Fall of 1969. He was a gifted athlete and a joy to be around. Our Freshman Class was particularly close and have regular reunions to this day. Gary will be missed greatly. My deepest condolences to the Hayman family, may your fond memories of Gary help you through these difficult times!

The best measure of a man is the quality of his children. Your beautiful and touching eulogy is a tribute to your father and you. I did not know him, except through the sports reports, but I wish I had known your father; he was man in every sense of the word.

Wesley,
What a beautiful eulogy. Your mother and father must be so proud of you as you are of them. Your father was an excellent role model and great human being. He is resting in Heaven, in eternal peace. God Bless him, his family and friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I did not personally know your father, but my brother-in-law Gary Connell played at Newark with Mr. Hayman and your uncle Conway. He always spoke highly of the two of them and how they made him a better person. May the memories of his love provide some comfort to you at this time. One day, the thought of your father will bring a smile and chuckle, instead of a tear. You will miss him but he will always be with you. God Bless you and keep you.
