John Nudo, 94, of Dawson, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family. John was a lifelong resident of Dawson, where he had served on the council, and had served as the mayor. He was born March 16, 1921, the son of the late Angelo and Pasqualina (Tignanelli) Nudo. John served with the Navy during World War II with the rank of Chief Machinist Mate, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of the former Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Dawson. After the war, John started the Auto Sales and Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Brooks Nudo; his parents; stepmother, Annie; four brothers; and two sisters. Surviving are one brother, August Nudo, of Dawson; three sisters, Esther Ruvo, of South Connellsville, Rose Marie Mulac and Nancy Antonucci, both of Florida; two daughters, Cathy Murphy and husband, Charles, of Pittsburgh, and Sharon Hawanchak and husband, John, of New Florence; a son, John K. Nudo, of Connellsville; grandchildren, Joe Palladino, Sabrina Murphy, William Hennessey and wife, Dawn, Patrick Hennessey and wife, Ashley, Laura Kasunic and husband, Richard, and Candace Nudo; great-grandchildren, Nicole Hennessey, Breanna Hennessey, Madelyn Hennessey, Aubrey Hennessey and Logan Hennessey; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Jellison and husband, Matt, and their children, Austin, Alexis and Dom. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the RALPH E. GALLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dawson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015, in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with Father Bob Lubic as celebrant. Interment will be in Greenridge Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery. The family wishes a sincere thanks to Cindy Becker-Morris for all of her help, kindness and support.
