Arthur Edward Shepard, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, 2018, at the age of 107. Art was born in Cambridge, Ohio, son of John and Edna McManus Shepard. He was the oldest of six children. He was predeceased by his first wife Beatrice Pearce Shepard, his second wife Dorothy Dohan Shepard, and his daughter Lynne S. Bader Jones. He is survived by his daughter, Marcia S. Mock (John Meyer) of Rochester, New York. He has five grandchildren, Lynda Gurzenski (James), Charles Looker, Scott Looker (Evelyn), Diana Bader, John W. Bader (Tamara). He also had five great grandsons, Matthew Gurzenski (Rebecca), Adam Gurzenski (Kelsey), Noah Gurzenski, Ryder Beckman, and Casey Beckman, along with five great great grandchildren, Isabelle, Ethan, Charlotte, and Hannah Gurzenski (Matthew and Rebecca) and Riley Gurzenski (Adam and Kelsey). Art graduated from Cambridge High School in 1929 and attended The Ohio State University and Franklin University in the early 1930s. He became a life insurance agent in Newark, Ohio, in 1935. In 1940, he and Floyd Turner formed Turner and Shepard Insurance Agency in Columbus. In 1996, Turner and Shepard was purchased by Berwanger Overmeyer Associates. Art continued there as an officer of the company until he retired in his 80s. Art received his Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1951. He was president of the Columbus CLU chapter and became a member of the Hall of Fame. In the early 1930s, Art received scholarship to attend The Ohio State University. Through the years, he has shown gratitude in many ways and was recognized with many awards. He was one of the first The Ohio State University Presidents Club presidents who served for five years. He was a member of the Alpha chapter of Gamma IOTA Sigma Insurance Honorary. He was the recipient of The Ohio State University Distinguished Service Award and the Everett D. Reese Medal. An early supporter of the James Cancer Hospital, Art and Dorothy endowed a research fund at Ohio State in memory of his daughter, Lynne S. Jones, and another for his wife, Dorothy Dohan Shepard. Art established several OSU scholarships to help high school graduates from Cambridge High School and Grandview Heights High School. Always interested in his hometown of Cambridge, Ohio, Art established an endowment for the city in memory of his parents, to be administered by a local committee, and gifting to the hospital. Art loved Columbus and supported COSI, The Columbus Foundation, Children's Hospital, The Ballet, United Way and many other charities. He was a member of F. and A.M. Community Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and Aladdin Shrine and Elks Club. First Community Church was near and dear to Art throughout his life. Art loved cheering for the Buckeyes and enjoyed wonderful seating at the home games. In recent years, he was honored to cheer from the President's Box one game per season. He was a tenor who delighted in signing in Vaudevillities for many years. Many friends at The Forum at Knightsbridge have reported hearing him sing as he walked down the halls. He loved life and lived a long full life. His sense of humor, optimism and care for people will long be remembered by all who knew him. The Board of Directors, Administration, and Staff of Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center, Inc. and Meals on Wheels Guernsey County wishes to extend our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the Shepard, Mock, Looker, Bader, Gurzenski, Beckman and Davis Families. Mr. Art Shepard was a wonderful man and philanthropist who never forgot his Cambridge roots and maintained close ties with our community thanks to his generosity and steadfast support. Over the years he generously supported countless local non-profit and charitable organizations, including the Senior Center and Southeastern Med Hospital just to name a few, through his establishment of The John & Edna McManus-Shepard Fund, named in honor of his parents. His nephew John Davis was the architect and his brother-in-law Harold Davis was the contractor responsible for the construction of the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center facility we reside in and utilize today. Sadly, Harold also passed away on Thanksgiving in November 2007. The late Harold Davis and his surviving widow Rose Ann (Shepard) Davis are fondly admired and much beloved within our Senior Center family and I had the honor and privilege to meet & know Mr. Art Shepard thanks to their close relationship and ties. I personally remember the phone call I received from Mr. Shepard the day after Harold sadly passed away in 2007. Mr. Shepard's legacy, in large part due to his very long and abundant life, will forever leave a lasting positive impact on our community, the mission of the senior center, and to me personally. We pray his family, especially his sister Rose Ann, finds comfort in knowing our thoughts and prayers are with you and that Mr. Shepard made a profound positive difference in the lives of people across the State of Ohio and in our small corner of The World. He will forever be the embodiment of a centenarian who inspired all who knew and adored him and as a good and faithful servant who lived a long life well lived giving to others unselfishly. God bless Mr. Art Shepard, his legacy, and may he forever rest in peace.

Deepest Sympathies and Sincere Condolences,
