Ann Connick Obituary

Ann Elizabeth "Betty" Jenniskens Connick entered eternal life on Tuesday, September 15 at the age of 89. Betty was the devoted wife of the late Paul David Connick Sr, and beloved mother to eight children: Carmel (Tookie), Paul (Giselle), Dutch, Eddie, Cynthia (Tom), Peter (Mary Belle), Patrick (Rhonda), and the late Ann Connick Stansberry (Larry). She was the revered Nana to twenty-six grandchildren and thirty one great-grandchildren. Betty was a devout Catholic. Throughout her life, she inspired her children and many others with her steadfast faith and devotion to the Blessed Mother and the rosary. She was a special person who dedicated everything to her family and to improving the lives of the children in her community. Her father was Thomas Jenniskens, a dairy farmer who immigrated from Holland in 1920 with Fr. Peter Wynhoven. Her mother was Louise Naquin Jenniskens who was from Labadieville, Louisiana. She was born and raised on the Hope Haven property in Marrero along with her siblings, Fr. Peter Jenniskens, Fr. Thomas Jenniskens S.J., Gertrude Jenniskens Pouwels, and John "Sonny" Jenniskens. Betty was a teacher. She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in New Orleans and later St. Mary's Dominican College where she obtained her degree in education. Her first job was at the Barataria School in Marrero. She then taught fourth grade for many years at Immaculate Conception School in Marrero. During her time at Immaculate Conception, she earned a master's degree in Special Education. In her final years of teaching, she returned to Hope Haven/Madonna Manor where she taught at-risk youth. After retirement from teaching, she served on the board of its affiliated institution Hope Haven. Betty's family would like to thank the staff and administrators at St. Margaret's at Mercy, where she received skilled care in her later years and those at Wynhoven Healthcare Center who offered her care and comfort in her final days. Due to COVID-19, for the protection of the community, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ann Connick Stansberry Nursing Scholarship Fund at Holy Cross College at 4123 Woodland Drive, New Orleans, LA 70131.

I fondly remember Ms. Betty as my 4th grade teacher and a faithful Catholic who always exhibited her Christianity and devotion to the Blessed Mother. Please know the many lives she touched are better because of her.

Dear Family,
We´re so sorry for your loss. Betty was a remarkable woman. She was a joy to be with and such a warm character and personality. She was simply one of a kind. Both Jeanne, Willy and I have deep and very loving memories of her. I´m sure a lot of my cousins in The Netherlands remember her in the same way. We´ll never forget her.
