Kaden Serafin Obituary
Kaden James Serafin, 13, of The Woodlands, TX, passed away October 14, 2016, surrounded by family after a five year battle with Ewing's Sarcoma Cancer. Kaden was born on July 18, 2003 in The Woodlands and was a student at Knox Junior High. Kaden loved sports, computers and most of all to make others laugh.
Kaden is survived by his parents Carmen and Kristi; siblings Noah and Addison. He also leaves his Great Grandparents Jim and Betty McCreary and Sarah Baker; Grandparents Peter and Jennie Serafin, Vicki and James Wright, and Jimmy and Susan Tengler. He is also survived by his Aunts and Uncles; Kari and Larry Montgomery, Pete and Lisa Serafin, and numerous cousins; including Jordan Serafin and Emery Montgomery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 19, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, I-45 South, The Woodlands, Texas, 77384.
A service will be held on Thursday, October 20, at 2PM at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, 2200 Lake Woodlands Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77380. Interment will follow for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to go toward research to help cure Ewing's Sarcoma. A specific Kaden Serafin Memorial Fund web page has been created by The Rutledge Foundation: http://weblink.donorperfect.com/KadenStrongMemorialFund

Serafin Family,
After Tommie Anne and I left the visitation we had a great conversation about Kaden. We want you to know it.
When we drove away she said, "Kaden sure opened a lot of eyes in our school." I asked in what ways. She said he showed us that our problems were not so bad. She said he was never in a bad mood and never heard him complain. She told me how one day last year she was at the lockers with some other kids and Kaden. Kaden was getting used to walking with the new leg and was trying to adjust it while standing there but lost his balance and fell. When everyone standing there went to help, he fought them off. She said he fell on his own and he wanted to get up on his own.
The powerful blessing that Kaden gave Tommie Anne and many others is this. No matter what you're going through there is no reason to feel sorry for yourself. There is no point in complaining or not being positive. Kaden may have felt all of these things but apparently he never showed it in school. He lead by example and made a lasting impression on young people. As a peer, he showed them how to act honorably in the face of a very tough situation. That's his legacy to them.
We thank God for putting him in our lives and we thank you for raising a genuine Warrior.

When I would take Kaden early to take him to his mom at the front the of school, we would drift through the hall in his wheelchair. I will miss laughing with him.

To the Serafins with the deepest of sympathy. Upon hearing of the passing of Kaden, I shed a few tears but know that he is now free of pain and suffering. As his fifth grade math teacher, I was always amazed by his continued fortitude and perseverance sprinkled with a dash of sense of humor. Dear Serafin family, I want to send my deepest sympathies over the loss of your sweet boy. My daughter Allison attended school with Kaden at David, Collins, and at Knox and has a high regard for him. She'll be sending her own note a bit later but is heartbroken. I knew Kaden too, from school and also from D. I. I remember him as a sweet, kind, fun-loving boy who always had a smile on his face. I've watched his battle from afar over these years and noted how brave he was. I know you are so very proud of him. You are and will be in my prayers over the days and weeks to come. Elie was in class with Kaden since they were tots at David. He has always put a smile on her face and I remember him doing the same for me any time I would have lunch with her during school.
