Bette Jo Grube, known affectionately as B.J., passed away at her home in North Manchester, Indiana, on September 8, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on August 30, 1949, in Huntington, Indiana, to Joseph L. and Bette (McClure) Reed, Bette lived a life dedicated to her family and her faith.

Her educational journey began at Manchester High School, from which she graduated in 1967. She later attended Ball State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Bette began her career at a young age, working for her father’s company, Reed’s Mobile Home Service, where she earned valuable experience in bookwork. Her professional journey led her to serve as the Auditor of Whitley County and later as Deputy Auditor of Wabash County, from which she eventually retired.

Bette married Bill on March 11, 1972, and they shared nearly five decades of companionship until his passing on January 6, 2021. Their union was marked by mutual respect, unwavering support, and love, which shaped Bette's life profoundly.

Bette was a private person who treasured her faith and family above all. She was a long-standing member of Manchester Bible Church before finding a new spiritual home at Faith Baptist Church in North Manchester. Her devotion to her church community reflected her belief in the importance of faith in everyday life. She enjoyed her church family over the years.

Beyond her commitments to family and work, Bette had a creative spirit. She found joy in restoring ceramic pieces to their former beauty and spent countless hours in her garden, nurturing both plants and her deep love for nature. Most cherished were the moments she spent with her husband, William "Bill" Grube, and their daughter, as well as her grandchildren. The bond she shared with her family was the cornerstone of her life, providing her with endless love and support.

In addition to her family, Bette had a soft heart for animals, rescuing several throughout the years and caring for them with devotion. Her beloved dogs were a source of comfort and companionship, embodying the compassion that defined her character.

The loving memory of Bette Grube will be forever cherished by her daughter, Emmajean (Steven) Huguenard II; brother, James (Linda Baker-Reed) Reed; sister, Nancy Reed, brother-in-law, Daniel (Kathy) Bilodeau; grandchildren, Dalton (Kristiania) Day, Patrick “Alex” Day, Christian M. Huguenard; and great-grandchildren, Remus and Iris Day. Bette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Grube; and sister, Cathy Bilodeau.
