Andrew Dirga Obituary

Andrew A. Dirga
Andrew A. Dirga, age 90, of Milford, formerly of Astoria Queens, NY, beloved husband of the late Patricia Love Dirga, passed away on February 5, 2023, in Bridgeport Hospital. Andy was born in Bridgeport on April 17, 1932, to the late Andrew and Anna (Kravec) Dirga and had been a longtime resident of New York, before moving back to Milford a short time ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Andy was a graduate of Harding High School and earned a BA from The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and was a retired salesman for Courier Publishing Company. He and his late wife enjoyed traveling to places all over the world. He was a sports enthusiast who rooted for the Mets, NY Jets and NY Yankees. His Jets chants were legendary. He was a lover of the arts and with his wife and friends, he took full advantage of all that New York City had to offer. He was a great pinochle player and enjoyed playing with his friends and family and they fully enjoyed his antics during the games. He loved his walks around Woodmont beaches and became well-known to the community during them. He will be missed. Survivors include his devoted brother, Peter Dirga of Milford, nieces and nephews, Denise Carroll, Laura (Joseph) Kmetz, Michelle (Richard) Murphy, Christine (Thomas) Mattutini, and Leigh Dirga, and several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his late wife and parents, Andy was predeceased by his brother, George Dirga, sister, Irene Patrick, sister-in-law, Sharon Dirga, and nephew-in-law Raymond T. Carroll. Dear Pete, Denise, Michele
I'm so sorry for your loss. Uncle Andrew was a pleasure and filled with so much knowledge that is hard to sufficiently tell all that he knew. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. may God bless you and take you through this hard time. I'm happy to say that at least he got to have a bit of orthodox Christmas with the perogies!
