Thomas Whitcomb Obituary
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Luther and Mary Whitcomb. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy (Kelley) Whitcomb; his children, son, Tom Whitcomb and his wife, Marcy, and daughter, Anne Whitcomb-Stoup and her husband, Chuck; his sister, Mary Lu Freeman; his beloved grandchildren, Taylor Kuhn and her husband, Kiefer, Logan Whitcomb, Madyson Whitcomb and her fiancé, Noah Hakes, Samuel Clemmons, and Daniel Clemmons and his wife, Yume; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.
Tom proudly served in the United States Air Force before dedicating his professional life to public service as a hydrogeologist for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A graduate of Dickinson College, where he majored in History and Geology, he was also a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Carlisle.
Known for his quirky humor and genuine kindness, Tom had a natural way of putting people at ease. He loved military and architectural history and found deep satisfaction in restoring older homes-projects that reflected both his curiosity and patience. He was also a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a loyalty he wore proudly through every season. He especially cherished traveling with Sandy, his wife and lifelong partner, with whom he shared a remarkable love story that began when they started dating at just 15 years old.
A loving husband and father, Tom adored his grandchildren and delighted in watching their lives unfold. He was always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer quiet support when it was needed most. Above all else, family was the center of his life and his greatest joy.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Daybreak Church, 321 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the service. A lunch reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions in Tom's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , a cause close to his heart.

Sandy, you have our deepest condolences. Tom was so welcoming when I first started at the Mining program back in 1974. He was a good geologist and so very consciences. It was a pleasure to know you both.
