Billy Brittingham Obituary

Billy Lee (Bill) Brittingham

Pocomoke City-Billy Lee (Bill) Brittingham, 55, of Pocomoke City, went to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends on June 8, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Billy was born July 10, 1958 in Crisfield, MD. Billy was the second born in a set of triplets to Kay F. Linton and Billy (Britt) Brittingham who both preceded in death, also preceding him in death was his step-father, Lester Brooks Linton.

Billy always had a smile, a sense of humor and a positive attitude throughout his illness.

He graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1977. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably for four years. Upon discharge, he attended Sam Houston Community College and received an education in the field of Corrections. After returning to Pocomoke, he attended Wor-Wic Community College for training as a Corrections Officer. He was employed at the Worcester County Jail for 25 years, retiring with the rank of Major in 2007.

After retirement, he returned to Wor-Wic and started his education in his new passion, the field of E.M.S., which he continued to work in as long as his health allowed.

He was an avid martial artist and an instructor for the American Red Cross.

Billy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Thella Bea Brittingham, children Christy Foxwell (James) of Eden, MD, Pamela Baker (Warren) of Pocomoke City, MD, Suann Noto (Mark) of Pocomoke City, MD, Michael Lowe (Crystal) of Annapolis, MD, Amanda Brittingham of Eden, MD; grandchildren, Leah, Alex, Evan, Jaydyn, Carliegh and Kaylyn, siblings, Cathy Cox (Greg) of Crisfield, MD, Bonnie Bunting of Parksley, VA, Bobby Brittingham (Terry) of Pocomoke City, MD and several nieces and nephews, his special aunt, who walked through this journey with him, Carolyn Lou Thomas and his special dog, "Twilley". He left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death and at peace.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held at the Walker Memorial Church of God, 11429 Hayman Dr., Princess Anne, MD on June 13, 2014 at Noon, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 107 Vine Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hollowayfh.com.

Unfortunately living so far away from Pocomoke I wasn't aware of my old buddies passing.
He definitely was a good man and a hell of a football player. Well known to play with all his heart and soul. I'm just glad I was on his team.
I'm glad he's not suffering anymore.

Bea and Bobby, although we often talked of Billy's illness, it is still hard when we loose someone. Just know that I have been praying God's strength for the entire family each and every day. Whenever I would run into Bill and Bea at the store, he would always remind me that God had him and his illness in control. I will never forget the kindness he showed my family when we were faced with the death of our loved one. Billy never changed from the time we graduated high school until his death. Please know that I am here for you for whatever you may need. Much love to you all and I am still in prayer for you. May God give you a peace like no other. Class of 1977.
