Forrest Shaffer Obituary

Forrest Shaffer, 82, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, in Abilene.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Altamesa Church of Christ in Fort Worth. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth.
Memorials: Memorial donations may be sent to Altamesa Church of Christ (neighborhood needs) or the American Heart Association.
Mr. Shaffer was formerly of Fort Worth and had resided in Abilene for the past six months. He was born in Modoc, Kan., on July 23, 1925, and moved to the Milan, Kan., area when he was small. He helped grow wheat on the family farm near Milan and he graduated from Milan High School. Mr. Shaffer was a member of the Church of Christ. He preached and taught home Bible studies for about 20 years in Iowa, Illinois and Kansas. He loved the home Bible studies where he could teach in a small setting, and was also a good class teacher. After retiring from formal ministry, he still did much personal teaching. He had been shepherd, greeter and deacon at different times. His last was as greeter at Altamesa Church of Christ. He had been in real estate sales and was a broker/owner for 12 years in Lawrence, Kan., before moving to Fort Worth, where he bought, rented and sold his own residential real estate.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law and a sister-in-law.
Survivors: Wife, Jeanette; daughters, Dawn Shaffer and husband, Marshall Nemoy, and Iris Linder and husband, Stephen Linder; son, Warren Shaffer and wife, Jeri; granddaughter, Jennifer Jennings-Shaffer and her husband, Sam Schroeder; grandsons, Eric Socolofsky, Christopher Jennings-Shaffer and Justin Linder; nephews, John H. Barnett and Douglas R. Barnett; brother-in-law, Joe R. Barnett; daughter-in-law, Brenda Jennings; more than 20 cousins; and a multitude of friends.

I am grieving and yet rejoicing with you because of the life of my beloved friend and former classmate at Abilene Christian College. His constant faithfulness continued to be an inspiration to me over 40 years after we were there together. I am confident his faithful life and the grace of our blessed Lord will be a combination that assures our meeting again in 'the sweet by and by' on that other shore.

Dear Jeanette and family,

We feel such a great loss at the passing of Forrest. Ever since the two of you moved to Abilene and left our small group we have had such a HUGE whole. We have missed you so much and we were planning a trip to come and visit you, the first of many, we had hoped. We know that you are going to miss Forrest terribly and we understand but we all know that he is in the best possible retirement home that anyone could ever hope to be in and one day we can all be together again. We look forward to that day.

Our love always.

In Him,

Linda and Walt Henry
