Eric Joering Obituary

Joering, Eric
1978 - 2018
Eric Joseph Joering, age 39, was tragically taken from us on Saturday, February 10, 2018 while responding to help others. He was a 1997 graduate of Westerville South High School and attended the Columbus State College Police Program. From there, he was hired by the City of Westerville, Division of Police. During the 16 years that Eric was employed by Westerville, he was a patrol officer, worked in the Detective Bureau, and then became a K-9 Officer partnered with Sam. Eric loved working with Sam but the most important job to him was being a husband and a father. His daughters were his everything and they thought the sun rose and set with him. He was truly loved by all and will be missed tremendously. Eric is survived by his wife, Jami; and his daughters, Eva (12), Elena (11), and Ella (6); parents, Jim and Lillian Joering; brother, Michael (Jen); nephew, Joseph; niece, Ravella; sister-in-law, Angi (Mike); nephews, Nick, Matt, TJ, and Chris; his police family, and many friends. Public Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 313 North State Street, Westerville, Ohio, 43082 from 10 a.m.-12 noon. An FOP Service will be held from 12-12:15 p.m., with the service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors), P.O. Box 3199, Camdenton, MO, 65020. Condolences may be left at www.HillFuneral.com.

Eric, seven years have now passed. This day, February 9th, 2018, was your last full day on this earth. No one knew what was about to happen the next day or that your partner, Anthony Tony Morelli, would be joining you in Heaven, leaving behind family, friends, co-workers, and so many that benefitted from your having lived! God bless you both and continue to bring comfort to all of us, whether we ever knew you or not. The Thin Blue Line stands strong and true for all of us as we think of you!

We are so sorry for the loss of your husband, father, son and friend! May God watch over Eric and his loved ones. Thank you for keeping my home town safe.

February 14, 2018

I didn't know Eric, but I know what Eric stood for and have a sense what was in his heart. Eric was hired after I left, but I know why he was with the Westerville Division of Police. He was there to serve his community and, if necessary, to give the ultimate sacrifice, which he did.
He is a brave hero and served his community proudly. He went to work each and every day knowing the dangers of that work.
I thank Officer Joering for his service to the community and the job he loved.

Like so many others, I only learned about the wonderful man Eric Joering was, after his earthly death. It's clear that he had some special DNA, for him to become a police officer and a beloved one at that, in addition to being a husband, father and friend. This world is a better place for his having lived, and whether we met him or not, this tragedy has brought out the best in the Westerville community and far beyond, knitting us together in a way we never dreamt possible.
