John Henry "Jack" Mantz

Mantz John Henry "Jack" Mantz, age 79, Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Born September 4, 1935. Preceded in death by parents John E. and Faye McMillen Mantz, son John, brother Thomas, sister Patricia Mantz Gallagher. Survived by sister, Mary Mantz Tolbert of Wellston, OH; son, Mark Mantz of Baltimore, OH; daughters and sons-in-law, Molly Mantz and Thorsten Hansen of Hamburg, Germany, Melissa Mantz and Mark Nelson of Avon, OH; grandchildren, Blaise Mantz, Erik Hansen, Olaf Hansen, Delaney Nelson, Dane Nelson; former wife of 30 years, Barbara Sink Mantz of Westerville; fiancé, Janice Tisone of Columbus; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a graduate and senior class president of Wellston High School, attended Ohio University and Franklin University. Veteran Korean War USMC and was honorably discharged. Member of American Legion Post #0371 Wellston, OH. Life member D.A.V. Buckeye Chapter #8, VFW Post #4713 Malta, OH, AmVets Post #89 Columbus, where he served as SGT Major in the Honor Guard, Knights of Columbus Assumption Council #3727 Columbus. Charter member and second president of Cranberry Marsh Bass Club; charter member of Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. Member of St. Mathias Catholic Church since 1969; organizer and first president St. Mathias Athletic Association. He served as head varsity football coach at St. Mathias Junior High School for 16 years, and coached the first undefeated championship in 1975. Member of St. Mathias Catholic Church since 1969. A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 23, 2014, 1:30 p.m., where friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service AmVets Post #89, 3535 Westerville Rd., Columbus.
