Morgan Assmann Obituary

Assmann Morgan R. Assmann, age 57, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, January 24, 2016. Morgan graduated from South High School in 1976 and went to The Ohio State University where he earned his teaching degree in Industrial Technology. While at Ohio State, Morgan was a four year letterman in baseball, the game he loved that would influence the rest of his life. Morgan devoted his life to helping others. He brought out the best in every young person he came in contact with. He began his teaching and coaching career in Buras, LA. Morgan and Christy returned to Columbus where Morgan continued teaching and coaching at Gahanna Lincoln High School. He was a beloved baseball coach for many years at Bishop Hartley High School. Morgan retired from teaching in 2015. Morgan leaves a legacy of love and laughter through his wife, Christy; his sons, Nick (Jenny), Marty (Jordan); and his precious granddaughters, Anne Elizabeth and Morgan Marie. Also surviving are his siblings, Denise (Paul) Leithart, Stephen (Susan) Ausmann, Kevin (Martha) Assmann, Ben (Kathy) Assmann; mother-in-law, Nancy Love; beloved in-laws, Karen (Sean) Rooney, Colleen (Martin) Mitchell, Kathy (Tom) Albert and John (Renee) Callahan. Many nieces and nephews were blessed enough to have been part of Uncle Morgan's Halloween parties, Christmas Eve gatherings, Cajun potatoes, arts and crafts, camping trips, skiing and fishing, card tournaments, summer fun at the pool and his many woodworking projects and adventures. Family will receive friends Thursday 3-8 p.m., with prayer service at 3 p.m. at the MAEDER-QUINT-TIBERI Funeral Home, 1068 S. High St. Friends and family will meet for Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Church, 2777 E. Livingston Ave. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Walnut Ridge High School baseball program, where Morgan planned to coach this spring. Christy, Marty, Nick & family,
Trista and I were both caught off guard when we just heard the news today. We have been blessed in this life that God gave us with many friends, coworkers and neighbors, but there is only one family that was there from the beginning to have taught us how to love one another, how to raise our first daughter, how to even take care of our first house (Thank goodness Morgan was always on hand to fix things!!). There is one family, even though we have not been close since we moved, that we always think of, that always makes us smile, that can have an impact the way that you have. There is a very special place in our heart for Morgan, Christy, Nick and Marty. I cannot imagine the empty space you are dealing with, but know that Morgan's impact on us and all others that he interacted with with live on. Our prayers, our love and our thoughts are with each of you.

I just heard the news of Morgans passing this past week. The time that I had to be around him on weekend softball tournaments was surely a pleasure. He always had a smile on his face and was carrying on some type of foolishness to bring a laugh or two to everyone else. It was easy to see the love he and his family had for each other. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you....

January 26, 2016

It's with a heavy heart tonight that I post this message to Nick, Marty and Christy. I just learned of the news this morning about Morgan. From the eastmoor pool days to later on in my life your Dad/Husband impacted me as a person. Morgan's sense of humor, unselfishness and passion for his family were qualities that I looked up to greatly! I'm pretty sure when I was a kid your Dad had me convinced for about 3 summers in a row that he played professional baseball for the Minnesota Twins:)
Later on in life I remember Morgan helping me paint lines on the Hartley football field late at night under the lights to have it ready for the Youth Football camp the first few years before there was turf. My family and I started the camp after my Dad passed away to honor his belief in keeping kids out of trouble by using sports. I know Morgan helped me because of my dad but also for the kids that were going to be impacted by the camp! His spirit was contagious and I will always be grateful that I had the honor of knowing him!
Continue to keep his spirit alive. May God Bless you!

To the Assmann family, my condolences on the passing of Morgan. I was truly blessed to have know him. I looked up to him more than you will ever know. Whether it was umpiring his games, or referring staff basketball games at GLHS in complete costumes, or just giving me a thumbs up from the railing at a Capital football game while I was officiating, he was always positive. I truly valued his friendship. Thank you Morgan for being such a great example of how one should love his family and friends.

January 26, 2016

Christy and Family,
I had the privilege of having Morgan as my drafting teacher back in 1998-1999. As I'm sure you are aware, he was a great teacher and friend. One who made students feel like they were part of the gang. I never felt like I was in school when I was in his class, and though I learned a lot, I felt it was alright to let loose a little bit. Honestly, what I learned from him in those classes turned out to be my livelihood. It all started because someone suggested that I take this coolest teacher's drafting class.
He had a way of leveling with students versus the ever so common approach of you will respect my authority.
As my grandfather always said The more you respect a man, the more he respects you. Morgan was worthy of any man's respect and he certainly had mine.
Morgan was a heck of a lot of fun. I remember once helping him kidnap the attendance taker (Greg Kneeland) for the ransom of two dozen donuts and some chocolate milk. That would probably get us arrested these days but it was fun for everyone at the time. I always enjoyed witnessing the pranks he played on folks, and how ran/rolled around in elaborate costumes on Halloween.
I have no idea where I'd be had I not known him, but I'm certainly glad I did.
No one remembers those who follow all the rules. If his goal was to improve the lives of those around him he certainly succeeded in such. I will remember him fondly, always.
You and your family have my deepest sympathy and I'm very sorry for your loss.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Morgan's passing. For those of us who had the opportunity to learn and play for him, it was truly an honor to know the man.
