Savannah Wilson Obituary

WILSON Savannah Sue Wilson. Early Monday morning, January 14, 2013, Savannah Sue Wilson, 24 of London, ended her courageous life-long battle with congenital heart disease to be with our God in Heaven. Beloved daughter of Melanie Jean (Shonkwiler) Hughes and Philip Lee Hughes of London, survived by sister, Samarah Taylor Wilson of London; sister, Mary (Dan) Satterfield of Hilliard; sister, Kelly Marcum of Columbus; grandmother, Mareeda (Rick) McClimans of Galloway; grandmother, Jane Hughes of London; and special family, Pam and Rick Gibson, Sarah Gibson, Samantha Gibson, Eddie and Kendall Shonkwiler, Justin Shonkwiler, and Tim Wilson; special friend, Mike Ellis; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and pets. Preceded in death by her father Brad Wilson of London, grandparents Bob and Betty Wilson of London, and grandfather Raymond Shonkwiler of Columbus. A graduate of London High School, Savannah was an inspiration to all that knew her. A former employee of Matco Industries, she also gave thousands of hours helping others in need as a volunteer at the Madison County Hospital and Clinic, where she worked with doctors and nurses in the surgery unit. Savannah was awarded the Jean Smith Volunteer Award in 2009 for her devoted service to MCH. In 2012, Savannah was recognized by her community as a Hometown Hero for her unselfish dedication and service to others, while overcoming her own physical limitations. Even in her final days, Savannah was thinking of ways to help others in need as she cut her hair to give to Wigs for Kids to benefit children with cancer. As a member of the Madison County Tigers, Savannah was a loyal member of the basketball team where her teammates voted her Athlete of the Year in 2011. Nicknamed "Scrappy" by her peers for her tenacious defense, never give up attitude and her will to win, Savannah entertained the fans with her on the court antics against much larger opponents. At the Special Olympics, Savannah won dozens of medals in track and field, including many gold. She was also a member of the bowling team where she recently won gold in the state doubles tournament. Savannah regularly participated in the annual Congenital Heart Walk to help raise money for research and a cure. She was also an active member of Eagles FOE 950 of London. Savannah will be remembered for her sassy, spunky and often outspoken personality, her ability to make you smile, laugh and sometimes cry, and her drive to do so much with so many obstacles in her way. Our precious daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, aunt, teammate, and friend is now an angel in heaven and suffers no more. God bless you Savannah! You have touched our lives abundantly and you will remain in our hearts forever. Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and a memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in London for all who wish to celebrate Savannah's incredible journey. The family wishes to thank all of the doctors, nurses and social workers at Nationwide Childrens Hospital, Hospice and her personal caregivers who are responsible for giving us 24 wonderful years. If Savannah touched your life, the family requests that you give to the Madison County Special Olympics (P.O. Box 88, London, OH 43140) in her memory so that Savannah can continue to help those in need. The family is being served by the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY in London. The Crossover by Kelly Creamer

On the other side of this mountain I'm climbing is the dawn of a brand new day...

on the other side of my tears there is laughter
on the other side of my rage there is calm
on the other side of my disability I am able
on the other side of my labor there is rest
on the other side of my pain I am healed
on the other side of my shame I am forgiven
on the other side of death there is life
on the other side of myself, there is God...helping me to crossover.

We are so very sorry for your loss of Savannah. Hillary & Savannah were in the same class in High School. Savannah helped Hillary and "took her under her wing" the first year Hill was there. She was a very sweet girl. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May all your special memories help you through this very difficult time. <3

I am a CHDer who went to Heart Camp with Savannah. If you would have seen her at camp, you would have seen how much fun she was having just by the smile and look on her face. It is something that I have never forgotten. She is so much happier now in heaven then she ever was at Heart Camp. Her family is in my thoughts and prayers.
