Mrs. Brock & Sons,
I was shocked and saddened Saturday evening when I learned of Coach Brock's funeral. It bothers my family and me that we did not know of his death until after the fact. You and Coach Brock are very special people to graduates of Stedman and Cape Fear High Schools. He will always be "the Dean Smith of Basketball in Cumberland County." You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Brock Family~
My deepest sympathies go out to your family. I will always remember Coach Brock being in that "fast" mode. Wherever you saw him, he was on a mission...you could tell by his voice and his walk...He never met a unfriendly face. He was "Cape Fear High Basketball!" I was shocked to find him as a resident on the Alzheimer's unit at at the VA Nursing Center where my grandfather is also at. When I approached him, he still remembered me from high school. Everytime I went to see my grandfather, I made sure to stop and say hello to him as well. It is with sadness now that we must say goodbye, however I know we all...especially former "colts" have very fond memories of him. May God bless you with all of these memories and the ones you also shared with him.
God Bless~ (Class of '86)

Mrs. Brock, Craig, Brad and extended family...

Written words will never be able to convey the love and admiration that I hold for Coach Brock. He was like a father to me and to my brother, Kent. His presence in our lives made us better people and for that, we will be forever grateful. His electric personality shined through in everything he did and all you had to do was look into his eyes to see his soul. When my son and I would visit him in his last months, I could still see a twinkle in those eyes. And when a nurse or staff member would ask who we were, his acknowledgement of 'this is my daughter and my grandbaby,' told me that he did indeed remember me. He touched so many more people than you will ever know. Take comfort in the fact that he was a role model for so many...all of his 'youngin's' will never forget him and his unique way of instilling values and morals into each one of us. Regardless of whether we played basketball for him or if we just sat in his living room watching a Carolina game with him or if we helped work a basketball camp for him, his love for us was obvious. Selfishly, though, I wish I could hear, "Well, Wendy-Pooh...how ARE you, shug?" or "Good evenin!!" just once more. But I have my memories and they are priceless. My best to you all and I trust that you will find much comfort and many blessings in the coming days. Love you!
