John Cordano Obituary

October 3, 1923 - January 13, 2022 John A. Cordano, Jr., age 98 of Los Angeles, CA, passed away at home on January 13, 2022.
He was born on October 3, 1923, the son of John A., Sr. and Angelina Cordano, and was a lifelong resident of Los Angeles.
John served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army in France, Austria and Germany during World War II. His military service suspended his college education but also allowed him to attend 5 Western schools (Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, Utah and USC), one of only a handful of stories he enjoyed telling about his service. John graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1948 and began a 44-year career as an engineer with the Southern California Gas Company, retiring as an Engineering Services Manager in 1992. He also earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1957.
John's avocations included golf, gardening, and restoring antique clocks and barometers. He also enjoyed planning and taking his family on annual driving trips in the Western U.S. and Canada, and in later years, cruising internationally with his devoted wife of 63 years, Gloria.
In addition to Gloria, John is survived by their children Stephen (Lori) and Kevin (Katie), and four grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Alison and Christian Cordano.
A celebration of John's life will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to Serra Retreat, 3401 Serra Road, PO Box 127, Malibu CA 90265.
