Louis Jacobucci Obituary

Louis A. Jacobucci, "Louie," 76, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 11:50 a.m. in Franciscan Health-Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Gene "Jake" and Deloris (Muckway) Jacobucci. On July 4, 1970, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Patricia (Sydow) Jacobucci, who survives him.

Also surviving are his daughter, Kristina (Matt) Gowin of La Porte, Indiana; his three grandchildren, Evan, Emmett and Elliott Gowin; his sister, Judith (Kenneth) Franks of La Porte, Indiana; and his brother-in-law, Wesley Hardy of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Hardy.

Louie graduated in 1967 from St. Mary's High School, Michigan City, Indiana. He attended St. Joseph College, and ultimately graduated from Indiana University in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in education.

Louie joined the Michigan City Police Department in 1973, where he faithfully served his community until he retired in 2007. Following his retirement from the Michigan City Police Department, he worked at the La Porte County Community Corrections Center. He was a member of the FOP/Dunes Lodge 75 and the Acme Lodge 83 F&AM, both in Michigan City, Indiana.

Louie was affectionately known as "Sweet Lou," "Sunshine," "Pop" or "Bop" by those closest to him. He was a loving husband and father, and adored being Evan's, Emmett's and Elliott's Bop/Pop. There was nothing he would not do for his wife, daughter or grandsons, and his love for them was evident every day.

As an extension of being Evan's Pop, his role as Destin's, Ethan's and Griffin's Pop was a source of great joy for him; he learned as much from them as they did from him.

He spent his life surrounded by many good friends, and never met a stranger. He was hard-working, good-humored, giving and kind, and will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on May 2, 2025, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, with Deacon William Zientarski officiating. Visitation hours will be Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Friday, May 2, 2025, from 9 a.m. until the time service begins in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

I knew Louie from St. Mary's later renamed Marquette. Even though I was class of '70 he was known to everyone. Always had a smile and kind word. I'm sorry for your loss.
