Jerry Thompson Obituary
Middletown - Jerry "Crabmeat" Thompson, an ageless Musician/Teacher/Writer, who penned Delaware's unofficial state song "Small Wonder", departed this world on June 22, 2021 at Select Speciality/St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, Delaware after making a valiant effort to recover from lung issues.
A tribute written by his loving wife, Janice, can be accessed online at Spicer-Mullikin Middletown, DE .
A virtual service commemorating and celebrating Crabmeat's life was produced by St. Paul's United Methodist Church (www.stpaulsodessa.org) and can be viewed on Youtube.
At a future date TBA, a spreading of the ashes and an outdoor barbeque/jam session will be held at Lum's Pond State Park.
Donations in his honor may be made to guitars4vets.org (Chapter 32).
Jerry is tremendously missed but joyously remembered by his wife, family, friends, colleagues, students, fellow musicians, and fans.

One of my favorite teachers. Mr. Thompson made learning fun which means I actually learned and started to love things like Shakespeare. My favorite memory is when we watched MacBeth and he rewound the part where Lady MacBeth gets her head chopped off and he played it over and over and over again. We all laughed so hard and honestly that is how you makes things clique...with laughter. Sad he is gone but happy I got to know him for a whole year as a Junior in High School, 1997. Rest in Happiness, Crabmeat!

To the Thompson family,
Jerry was my teacher (DelTech, mid-80s vintage), a friend and a mentor. I will always carry a bit of his mental DNA with me for as long as I live... and I am proud to do so.
He redefined grace, patience and understanding. Such a special man and one I am so glad I got to know.
My sympathies for your loss, and prayers of strength, because deep down, you all know Crabmeat would not want you to cry... laugh? For sure, cry? Never.

Chris,
I'm so sorry to be just reading this. We'd missed you at Garden Club but had no idea he was ill. Besides loving his music, he was also my kids history teacher at one point. He'll be missed by many. My thoughts are with you and Janice.
